Bhumtham Awaits New Director-General Appointment to Address Land Dispute

Bangkok: "Bhumtham" has disclosed that he is in the process of appointing a new Director-General of the Land Department with the aim of resolving the ongoing Khao Kradong land dispute. He emphasized that legal measures will be pursued to address the issue. In relation to the power outages affecting nine locations in Cambodia, he mentioned that a Cabinet approval is anticipated on August 5.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, commented on the delay in appointing a new Director-General for the Department of Lands. He assured that the matter is under active consideration and he is personally supervising the necessary changes.

When questioned about the budget allocation for compensating landowners in the Khao Kradong region, given the previous inaction by the Land Department's Director-General, Mr. Phumtham stressed the need to identify the parties involved in line with tort law to ensure proper accountability.

Regarding the National Security Council (NSC) meeting held on the morning of August 1st, Mr. Phumtham responded to queries about whether the budget for compensating those affected by the Thai-Cambodian border conflict was discussed. He noted that relevant agencies are expected to finalize the details before providing further clarification.

In response to inquiries about the potential power cuts by the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in nine Cambodian areas, Mr. Phumtham confirmed that this matter would be addressed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th.
