Bangkok Unveils Traffic Management Plan for Samsen Road Ahead of School Term

Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has introduced a detailed traffic management plan for Samsen Road to ease congestion as the new school term begins on October 27th. The plan includes adjustments to traffic lanes and signal lights aimed at facilitating a smoother commute for parents during peak hours.

According to Thai News Agency, the initiative was discussed during the 5th/2025 meeting of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Executive Committee, chaired by Bangkok Governor Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt. The meeting, held at the Chao Phraya Room in Bangkok City Hall, was attended by Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, and other city executives. The Traffic and Transportation Department (TTD) presented a comprehensive report on traffic management strategies around Vajira Hospital, with specific adjustments to routes and lanes around Samsen Police Station to assist parents during drop-off times.

The traffic management plan specifies that lanes and signal lights will be adjusted during rush hours, from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM and from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Vehicles coming off the Sanghi Bridge will be able to proceed directly to the Sanghi Intersection and turn right into the school zone, with a two-lane opening at the Suan Ruam Ruedi Intersection leading to Nakhon Ratchasima Road. Additionally, vehicles from Khao Road are directed to continue straight to the Wachira Intersection and turn left onto Samsen Road.

For those traveling to Vajira Hospital, the plan allows entry via Nakhon Ratchasima Road, turning into Soi Suan Oi Klang, and continuing through Sangkhalok Road. This route also accommodates vehicles coming from the Dusit District Office.

The Traffic Police Department, in coordination with Samsen Police Station, is tasked with adjusting traffic lights and installing necessary warning signs. Moreover, the Bangkok Governor has directed the Traffic Police Department to work with contractors to ensure the availability of public transportation from the pier to the intersection, along with additional routes in key areas. Emphasizing a need for effective traffic management, Mr. Sittipunt highlighted the importance of thorough planning at the Sang Hi intersection and around Vajira Hospital.
