Bangkok Prepares for Historic LGBTQIAN+ Marriage Registration Event.


Bangkok: Bangkok is poised to make history as it gears up to provide ‘equal marriage’ registration services starting on January 22, 2025. This momentous occasion will feature a large-scale event where over 1,000 LGBTQIAN+ couples will register their marriages simultaneously, with the aim of setting a Guinness World Record.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sanon Wangsangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, alongside the civil society working group on equal marriage and network partners, was present at the ‘Countdown to Equal Marriage Day’ press conference. The event, announced in the Royal Gazette on September 24, will officially take effect on January 22, 2025.

Bangkok has demonstrated its readiness to offer equal marriage registration services. Last year, a rehearsal was conducted where 164 couples participated in the first day of equal marriage registration. However, efforts continue to address the necessary subsidiary laws to fully realize this initiative. Mr. Wangsangboon expressed his encouragement to t
hose advocating for diversity and equality, emphasizing collective efforts to bring this vision to fruition.

The grand event on January 22, 2025, is set to take place at Paragon Hall on the 5th floor of the Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in Bangkok. This historic gathering will not only involve the capital but also include 878 districts nationwide and 50 districts within Bangkok, marking a significant milestone in the fight for equal rights.
