Bangkok: The legend of the Laotian market in Khlong Toei has ended. Reclaim the area for pedestrians to travel. Move forward with integration and immediately start improving the landscape. Mr. Jakkapan Phuwangam, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, visited the area to follow up on the demolition of structures and other components in the area of ??the Rim Khlong Hua Lamphong Market (Lao Market), Rama IV Road, Khlong Toei District.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jakkapan stated that Bangkok dismantled the structure and other components in the Lao Market area, Khlong Toei District, from December 2-4, 2024. The demolition took 3 days and was completed today. He expressed gratitude to all relevant agencies for their cooperation in this mission. The Department of Public Works dismantled the steel roof structure, roofing materials, cut the steel poles, and cut the steel fence panels. The Khlong Toei District Office collected the scraps of materials dismantled from the area. The Traffic and Transportation Department mov
ed the CCTV cameras, and the City Law Enforcement Department arranged officers to maintain order. The Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Port Metropolitan Police Station supported police officers, while the Metropolitan Electricity Authority cut off the electricity, and the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority cut off the water supply. NT collected the communication cables. Importantly, 91 vendors who traded in the Lao Market recognized the importance of the community in improving the landscape of the sidewalks and organizing the trading area by relocating to the Khlong Toei 2 Market area and nearby markets.
Mr. Jakkapan further elaborated that the landscape improvement of the Lao Market area on Phra Ram 4 Road will involve an integration of efforts from all agencies. The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority has already started by digging up and laying new water pipes. Subsequently, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority will install new electric poles, lay electric wires, and remove unused electric poles, which w
ill be relocated to the Hua Lamphong Canal. NT will streamline communication lines by burying all communication wires underground. The Traffic and Transportation Department will set up CCTV poles. The Drainage Department will inspect manholes along the footpath and upgrade them if they are lower than the new footpath level. Additionally, drainage pipes under the footpath will be checked to ensure they can channel water from Phra Ram 4 Road into the Hua Lamphong Canal. The Department will also enhance the connection point of the drainage system between the Pai Singto Canal and the Hua Lamphong Canal by constructing a new water gate. Within the next week, the Department of Public Works will commence improvements by demolishing the old footpath and creating a new, continuous footpath covering the drainage system’s connection point. This will restore the footpath for public use, facilitating convenient and safe travel. The Khlong Toei District Office has been tasked with coordinating with relevant agencies to ens
ure the landscape improvement of the Lao Market area on Rama IV Road is carried out efficiently, orderly, cleanly, and beautifully.
