Bangkok: Attorney Kerdphol has reiterated that no formal charges have been filed against the renowned fortune teller involved in the donation controversy linked to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, although suspicions of fraud persist. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with the Crime Suppression Division yet to verify the complete flow of donations to the temple.
According to Thai News Agency, the controversy arose when it was revealed that public donations intended for Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu were being deposited into a personal account before purportedly being passed on to the temple's abbot. Attorney Kerdphol Kaewkerd acknowledged that while the actions of the fortune teller appear fraudulent, they have not been legally classified as such, pending further investigation. He advised the temple to compile evidence and file a formal complaint, with discussions on the matter scheduled for an upcoming meeting.
Rumors have circulated that the fortune teller allocated 70% of the donations to the temple while retaining 30% for personal expenses, a claim the temple has denied any prior knowledge of. The fortune teller reportedly admitted to using donated funds for personal purchases, including a brand-name bag and a car, the latter of which was ostensibly for temple use. The final determination of any legal repercussions is expected following tomorrow's discussions.
