Bangkok: Ajarn Saman Khlangchaturat, a renowned oil painting master, is dedicated to spreading the art that narrates His Majesty’s profound love for the Thai people.
According to Thai News Agency, the 71-year-old artist expresses his deep admiration for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. He recalls the honor of painting an oil portrait of Her Majesty for her 72nd birthday, a masterpiece that won first place in a banknote competition in Germany.
Throughout his distinguished career, Ajarn Saman has painted hundreds of portraits of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, with some of his works being among the largest in Thailand. These portraits are displayed in significant locations for public homage. Ajarn Saman shares that each brushstroke brings images of Her Majesty’s charitable work to mind, and every portrait presents a unique challenge.
Professor Saman highlights Her Majesty’s interest in the arts and her initiatives to support artists and villagers, helping them gain employment and showcasing Thai creativity globally. She played a pivotal role in providing livelihoods and commissioned the Queen Sirikit Art Gallery to offer independent artists a platform. Her positive remarks about Professor Saman’s work have been a source of inspiration for him.
In tribute to His Majesty’s public service, Professor Saman established the Khlang Chaturat Art Gallery in Chaiyaphum Province. For over 20 years, the gallery has offered a free space for young people and art enthusiasts to study his work. Despite the passing of the “Mother of the Land,” Professor Saman remains committed to preserving and sharing the legacy of Her Majesty with future generations through his art.
