Anutin Plans Interior Ministry Reshuffle and Poker Regulation Review

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has announced plans to reshuffle the Interior Ministry to restore justice and is considering reviewing poker as a form of gambling. Anutin insists that any economic benefits derived from gambling legalization will require support from a future prime minister.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed potential amendments to the Interior Ministry's regulations, including the legalization of poker and the citizenship status of lobbyist Benjamin Mauerberger. Anutin stated that such changes would need to wait until his formal appointment to the ministry. He emphasized that gambling should be examined on a case-by-case basis and reiterated his stance that economic stimulation should not rely on gambling, a decision for a future leader.

Anutin clarified his position on poker decriminalization, expressing the need to understand the details before proceeding. He noted that announcements were made shortly after his previous term as Interior Minister, without his knowledge or responsibility. Upon resuming his role, Anutin plans to consult with relevant departments, such as the Department of Provincial Administration, to address these issues. He highlighted discrepancies in policy implementation during his absence that need addressing.

Regarding the allegedly unfair transfers of Interior Ministry officials, Anutin committed to restoring justice, stating that the nation relies on Dhamma and justice. He acknowledged the past lack of fairness and pledged to reinstate these principles, confirming his intent to review the cases of transferred officials.
