Anutin" prepares to propose to the Cabinet to adjust the criteria for more assistance, expedite clearing obstacles in the Ping River and Kok River to allow better flow. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the flood situation after visiting Chiang Mai yesterday. He said that the Prime Minister had expedited and ordered the Ministry of Finance to transfer the central budget to help people on a household basis. He said that on the afternoon of September 25, money from the Comptroller General’s Department had already been transferred to the account of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The Ministry of Interior had been expediting the survey since yesterday to collect the names of those who would receive this compensation, which would be gradually transferred into the accounts. In terms of compensation, the Prime Minister wanted the highest standard to be used, but we had to see if it met the criteria. According to the criteria, 5,000, 7,000, and 9,00 0 baht would be paid per household. However, in reality, even if 9,000 baht is paid, it would not be enough. We have to see if the criteria for helping people would be adjusted to pay more. This would have to be brought to the Cabinet meeting for approval. This matter will be brought to the Cabinet meeting on October 1. As for some provinces that have been flooded again, such as Chiang Rai, will they need more assistance than usual? Mr. Anutin said that according to the criteria for disbursing assistance, it can only be paid once for this situation. As for home repairs, there will be another category of assistance. The Ministry of Interior will provide a budget of 49,500 baht for home repairs, and there will be another budget from the Office of the Prime Minister. Therefore, we will try to find as much assistance as possible from various relevant departments, such as the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, which already have assistance measures. When asked how long it would take to clear the water, especially in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, Mr. Anutin said that the water currently flooding is the water that has risen in Chiang Mai, namely the Ping River, and in Chiang Rai, the Kok River. The provincial governors must try to make the water flow as best they can, especially at points where there is garbage or obstacles to the water flow. We must quickly mobilize various tools and equipment to remove these obstacles so that the water can flow as smoothly as possible. We must quickly release water into the Bhumibol Dam as quickly as possible. Source: Thai News Agency
