Nonthaburi: Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, inaugurated the 16th National Academic Seminar on Road Safety, emphasizing the vital role of 'Situation Awareness' in reducing road accidents. He asserted that any road accident is unacceptable, equating a single loss of life to an "F grade" in societal responsibility. According to Thai News Agency, the seminar was held at the IMPACT Forum in Pak Kret District, focusing on the theme 'Intensely Joining Forces, Creating Strong Mechanisms for Safer Thai Roads: Road Safety Stronger Together.' Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Minister of Interior, disclosed that Mr. Anutin has consistently prioritized road safety across various governmental roles. He outlined four key areas for improvement: enhancing awareness of safety and traffic laws, enforcing these laws stringently, maintaining road infrastructure, and ensuring vehicles are in safe working condition. The seminar shed light on Thailand's ongoing efforts to c urb road accidents, referencing the government's adherence to the United Nations' Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. Despite these efforts, the country faces challenges such as high mortality rates in the working-age group and significant losses in economic opportunities due to road accidents. Mr. Anutin underscored the necessity of comprehensive, adaptive strategies to mitigate these issues, acknowledging the societal transitions that contribute to increased road usage and potential risks. Mr. Anutin emphasized the importance of integrating campaigns and fostering cooperation among various sectors to address changing accident causes. He highlighted the rise of new business models, like food delivery services, that demand rapid transportation and increase risk factors. He warned against over-reliance on automated systems and advocated for maintaining constant situational awareness, drawing parallels from his experience as a pilot. A poignant part of Mr. Anutin's message was the call to never accept even minimal risk in road safety, underlining the emotional and economic toll of preventable accidents. He urged strict adherence to safety laws and responsible driving practices, emphasizing collective responsibility in reducing accidents. The seminar also involved the presentation of the Prime Minister Road Safety Awards to various government agencies, educational institutions, local government bodies, private sector organizations, and individuals. The awards recognized exemplary contributions to improving road safety, supported by collaborative efforts with the Health Promotion Foundation and the Road Safety Fund. The event was graced by senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, including Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other dignitaries, reflecting the high-level commitment to enhancing road safety across Thailand.
