Bangkok: "Anutin" declares a strong personal relationship with "Thaksin," emphasizing cooperation and unity in addressing Thailand's pressing issues.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul discussed his recent meeting with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra during a special lecture focused on drugs and transnational crime. He clarified that political issues were not on the agenda, stating that the primary focus was on combating the drug problem, deemed the country's foremost enemy.
Anutin addressed concerns about the potential for harsh measures reminiscent of past extrajudicial killings in the war on drugs, affirming that all actions must adhere to legal standards. He highlighted the challenge posed by drug production sites located outside Thailand and stressed the importance of diplomatic and civilized methods in addressing these issues without resorting to invasion.
In response to inquiries about potential conflicts between the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties, Anutin refuted suggestions of discord, noting that he continues to receive directives from the Prime Minister despite his presence abroad. He emphasized that the cooperation between the parties is evident not just in images but in their joint efforts to tackle national challenges. "Today, we are not only standing together, but he also hugged me," Anutin remarked, underscoring their collaborative spirit.
Anutin dismissed speculation about political implications arising from his presence alongside Justice Minister Thawee Sodsong and Thaksin Shinawatra, reiterating that each individual was focused on their respective responsibilities. He urged the separation of personal relationships from public duties, reaffirming that public affairs, particularly the fight against drugs, are of paramount importance. Anutin concluded by stating, "Whenever we fight, the people are the ones who suffer. At this point, we don't see anything important except the people."
