Anutin Discusses Key Infrastructure Projects with World Bank Vice President

Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed gratitude to the World Bank's Vice President, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, for the institution's support of Thailand's hosting of the 2026 World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings during discussions held at the 47th ASEAN Summit. The Prime Minister emphasized his government's commitment to infrastructure projects and sustainable economic development.

According to Thai News Agency, both leaders discussed the importance of the "Lanta Island Bridge Project" and the Songkhla Lake Bridge Project, which are expected to boost tourism and enhance logistics capabilities in Thailand. Anutin stressed the significance of these projects in reducing travel distances and costs, thereby promoting connectivity and local economic development.

The Prime Minister also reiterated Thailand's readiness to host the 2026 World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings, confident that the event would highlight the Thai economy's potential. The World Bank Vice President assured his support for the event and mentioned that the World Bank's working group is prepared to collaborate with the Thai team to ensure its success.

Anutin highlighted the government's priorities, including stimulating the grassroots economy, reducing household debt, increasing liquidity for SMEs, and promoting savings. He expressed interest in deepening cooperation with the World Bank on the green economy transition, digital economy development, job creation, and human capital development, aligning with ASEAN's economic goals for sustainable growth.

The discussions also focused on the "Low Carbon City" project, aiming to develop sustainable Thai industries. Both parties agreed to exchange best practices and expedite the approval process for the Koh Lanta and Songkhla Lake Bridge projects, considering their potential impact on tourism and logistics.
