Bangkok: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has highlighted that good neighbors should refrain from issuing threats. In the midst of growing tension, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his readiness to cut off electricity supply to Cambodia if instructed by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who had just returned from Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani Province, stated he had not been briefed on the prime minister's press conference regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue. When questioned about the handling of the border situation, Anutin indicated that preparations and surveillance measures were already in place at the frontier.
In response to Cambodia's declaration to close the border, Anutin noted that the act of closing the border is separate from the ongoing border surveillance efforts. He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is focused on ensuring the well-being of the people and managing the situation at the domestic level. Anutin reiterated that decisions regarding the opening and closing of the border are policy matters that require the direction of the head of government.
Furthermore, Anutin stated that the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Provincial Electricity Authority, is prepared to cut off electricity supplies to Cambodia. This action would be taken immediately if an order is given by the National Security Council or an authorized individual.
