Anutin Asserts Thai Sovereignty Amid ASEAN Summit Invitation

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister of Thailand, has addressed the invitation extended by Cambodian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to attend the upcoming ASEAN summit. Anutin emphasized that no external party could interfere with the Thai government, following a request from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet for Malaysia to mediate regional discussions.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin acknowledged receiving a personal phone call from Anwar Ibrahim, discussing the ASEAN summit invitation. Anutin noted that if he assumes office, a meeting with Anwar is anticipated at the summit scheduled for next month.

Anutin mentioned that there have been no detailed discussions concerning the border situation in Sa Kaeo Province. He explained that he is yet to take the oath of office, and a caretaker government is currently in place, which requires mutual respect. "Once I accept the position, I will first have an audience with His Majesty the King and take the oath of office. Regarding policy and orders, we must await the policy statement to Parliament. We are currently gathering as much useful information as possible," Anutin stated.

Addressing Hun Manet's request to Anwar for negotiation intervention, Anutin firmly stated that Thai sovereignty and governance remain impervious to external interference. He reiterated the importance of prioritizing Thailand's interests, dignity, and sovereignty, along with ensuring the safety of its people, during any discussions.
