Papua also covered in FIFA U-20 WC trophy tour: Minister

The (U-20) Asian Cup is just about to start, so apart from Indonesia, we do not know (who will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup from the Asia zone) yet.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The trophy tour of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup will not only be conducted at the six host cities but also at four non-host cities, including Jayapura City, Papua Province.

“If I am not mistaken (the trophy tour will also be held) in Pekanbaru (Riau Province), Balikpapan (East Kalimantan Province), Makassar (South Sulawesi Province), and Jayapura (Papua Province),” Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali stated during a media briefing here on Friday.

Meanwhile, the designated six host cities comprise Jakarta, Bandung in West Java Province, Solo in Central Java Province, Surabaya in East Java Province, Gianyar in Bali Province, and Palembang in South Sumatra Province.

The minister noted that FIFA had appointed Bali to conduct the draw for the group stage of the cup at the end of March 2023.

He noted that the draw will be conducted at the end of March after the completion of all regional qualifying championships, including the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations held in Egypt as well as AFC U-20 Asian Cup held in Uzbekistan.

“The (U-20) Asian Cup is just about to start, so apart from Indonesia, we do not know (who will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup from the Asia zone) yet,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the qualifying championships in the other confederations, namely in the Europe (UEFA); North America, Central America, and Caribbean (CONCACAF); South America (CONMEBOL); as well as Oceania (OFC), had been completed.

“Thus, we do not know who will be our opponent (in the group stage) yet,” Amali remarked

However, he noted that all participating countries — New Zealand, Fiji, Guatemala, and Indonesia — in the 2023 U-20 Mini Tournament organized by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) had managed to secure a spot in the World Cup.

The mini tournament was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on February 17-21, 2023, as part of the Indonesian national team’s preparations for the cup.

Meanwhile, in addition to the four countries, other representatives that qualified to play in the FIFA U-20 World Cup are the Dominican Republic, Honduras, the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, England, France, Israel, Italy, and Slovakia.

Furthermore, the minister spoke of having met with Chairperson of PSSI Erick Thohir to discuss about promoting the implementation of the cup in the six hosting cities.

The attempt will be made by the Indonesia FIFA U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee (INAFOC) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of each host city.

“Yesterday, I had a meeting with Mr. Erick (Thohir) to clarify the division of tasks between INAFOC and LOC (regarding the promotion of the event),” Amali said.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian contingent’s Chef de Mission (CdM) for the 2023 SEA Games Lexyndo Hakim expressed optimism about the Indonesian athletes’ readiness to compete in the upcoming multi-sport event.

The 2023 Southeast Asian Games, which is the 32nd edition of the SEA Games, will be hosted by Cambodia and held on May 5-17, 2023.

“God Willing, they are ready. They had competed in the 2021 SEA Games, so the gap (with the 2023 SEA Games) is not too long, yet ideally, they will prepare themselves properly,” Hakim stated at the Jakarta International Velodrome here on Friday (February 24).

The CdM expressed confidence that athletes participating in the 2023 SEA Games after competing in the last SEA Games, hosted by Vietnam yet postponed until May 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, would maintain their top performance.

Sports federations and relevant parties must give full support to athletes competing in the upcoming event, he affirmed.

“The (gap) between the SEA Games’ iterations is only one year. Hence, athletes stay in their peak performance, and we must continue to maintain their (physical) stamina and conditions,” Hakim emphasized.

Meanwhile, Hakim confirmed to have paid a visit to Cambodia to observe the sporting venues for the multi-sport event and organized meetings with the CdM team to discuss venue conditions and job assignments after returning from Cambodia.

He stated that the CdM team will divide their job assignments according to the athletes’ needs at each competition’s venue cluster, which the host Cambodia has divided into four in Kampot and Kep, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh.

“We will recheck it in detail, so our athletes will not become confused (there). We will also ensure that they are comfortable and will focus only on delivering their achievements, as we are taking care of all other aspects,” Hakim affirmed.

part from ensuring prime physical performance, the CdM also highlighted the need to support the athletes’ mental health, including by motivating them and nurturing their optimism.

Ministry logs 9,417 cases of hoaxes during August 2018-February 2023

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Communication and Informatics Ministry recorded 9,417 cases of hoaxes as well as 1,730 instances of fraud during the period from August 2018 to February 16, 2023.

“Cyberspace is filled with many kinds of information, whether it is positive– but what is also prevalent is negative content, even misinformation, even hoaxes. We have the data. Until February, 9,417 instances of hoaxes were discovered,” director of informatics empowerment at the Communication and Informatics Ministry Bonifasius W. Pudjianto stated.

Pudjianto delivered the statement at a discussion during the “Education Sector Digital Literacy Kick Off” event here on Thursday, February 23.

Pudjianto stated that digital literacy served as a key for people to counter misinformation, hoaxes, and frauds.

The ministry consistently pursues efforts to boost the public’s digital literacy through efforts, including collaborative works with universities, by hosting lectures that involve the ministry and experts on that topic.

Moreover, the digital literacy program will be integrated with some of the students’ activities, such as student study services (KKN). Thus, it is expected that students could further educate people on digital literacy, he added.

“We expect that by the process of students giving education on digital literacy to people, it can reduce the chances of the spread of information that is misinforming as well as hoaxes that spread in cyberspace,” he remarked.

He expected that the collaboration will improve the national digital literacy rate. Currently, Indonesia scores 3.54 on the scale of five in digital literacy, which makes the rate rather average or medium.

“We truly expect that this collaboration program can improve the digital literacy index that we gauge at the end of 2023,” he said.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Health expert Prof Tjandra Yoga Aditama highlighted the need for strengthening the dissemination of information and education to the community regarding the importance of consuming a nutritionally balanced diet that is rich in animal protein.

“The community needs to continuously be reminded about the importance of balanced nutritional fulfillment, especially that is rich in animal protein, in order to support the government’s efforts in preventing stunting,” Aditama stated when contacted on Saturday.

Indonesia’s stunting prevalence declined by 2.8 percentage points to 21.6 percent in 2022, from 24.4 percent in 2021, based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI). The government is aiming to reduce stunting prevalence to 14 percent by 2024.

The Director of the Postgraduate School of YARSI University stated that intensive dissemination of information and education are expected to boost the people’s understanding and awareness of balanced nutrition.

ditama, who was concurrently the former director of Communicable Diseases at the WHO South East Asia Regional Office, emphasized the need to focus on five essential aspects to increase knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the community regarding balanced nutrition.

Under the first area of focus, counseling should be provided continuously by health workers through various means of communication.

Secondly, counseling by community leaders should also be conducted.

The third focus is that various campaigns and activities highlighting real examples of a nutritionally balanced diet should be conducted.

“Fourth, it needs comprehensive policies from the central and regional governments that can support the implementation of balanced nutrition,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the fifth aspect is the involvement of professional organizations in supporting dissemination and education programs to the community.

“Through the active role of various parties, it is expected that efforts to improve the community’s understanding and knowledge on balanced nutrition can run as expected,” he stated.

Ministry calls for sustained vigilance against disasters

it needs to be anticipated at the earliest through disaster mitigation efforts

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs reminded all stakeholders, especially in the regional government, to remain cautious and prepared for hydrometeorological disasters.

“Even though at this time, we are at the end of the rainy season, we must remain cautious of the risk of hydrometeorological disasters, considering the increased intensity of rains a while ago,” the Assistant Deputy of Disaster Mitigation and SocialConflicts at the coordinating ministry, Andre Notohamijoyo, stated on Saturday.

He said the floods that struck some places in the country in February 2023 served as a warning for all stakeholders to keep their guards up in facing possible disasters that could occur abruptly.

Notohamijoyo stated that the governments of regions prone to such disasters should step up vigilance and formulate mitigation measures to address disaster risks.

“Measures that need to be taken are firstly, to improve readiness by optimizing the capacity of drainage and water management as well as the absorbency system and water collection to optimally prevent flood and landslides,” he elaborated.

The second is to improve the capacity and reliability of water bodies, such as ponds, and man-made water collection system.

“It needs to be ensured that everything can operate well for containing and utilizing clean water as well as to control the risk of floods,” he explained.

The third step was to raise the alert status if data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency pointed at an increase in rainfall intensity that posed a risk of floods and landslides.

The fourth step is to tap into the potential and functions of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, as the coordinator of disaster mitigation efforts.

“The fifth (measure) is to establish posts for flood disaster alert,” he noted.

He also cautioned that the increased rainfall intensity could raise the risk of floods, landslides, and tornadoes.

“Thus, it needs to be anticipated at the earliest through disaster mitigation efforts,” Notohamijoyo emphasized.

Collaboration instrumental in boosting MSMEs’ competitiveness

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Collaboration is the key to improving the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

“Cross-sectoral collaboration can support MSMEs to go international. Therefore, we need to develop the ecosystem,” the minister stated at the Legendary Brand Festival event here on Saturday.

Hasan remarked that his ministry continues to optimize the ecosystem and expand MSMEs’ networks to support them in foraying into international markets.

He explained that MSMEs in the country would be guided to level up, so that their products could draw people.

The effort is made through training and assistance in production to push MSMEs to be more innovative and open to changes.

In addition, the government is supporting MSMEs through exhibitions, the dissemination of information on the “love local products” campaign, and the Proud of Indonesian Product national movement.

Moreover, MSMEs will be connected to modern retailers and marketplaces to build partnerships and access to supply their products.

In terms of capital, the Ministry of Trade is also facilitating MSMEs’ access to financing institutions.

ccording to Hasan, 60 to 80 percent of the bank credit in developed countries is generally used to help MSMEs access capital. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the figure is still at around 30 percent.

To this end, the ministry encourages MSMEs in the country to have the vision to go international.

“Thus, the sales can be carried out through digital marketplaces or directly through retailers. There are those that help in financing those (businesses) that are facing difficulties in (obtaining) capital. Next, (MSMEs should) target export markets,” he remarked.

The minister further noted that several financing and bank credit institutions have committed to supporting MSMEs by providing access to capital with low interest.

Meanwhile, for exports, the Indonesia Eximbank (LPEI) will help MSMEs that are facing difficulties in obtaining capital.

Moreover, the Ministry of Trade continues to optimize the trade of Indonesian products through 46 representative trade offices abroad as well as by making the most of the ministry’s 26 trade agreements.

Hasan emphasized that the government, through the Ministry of Trade, continues to make efforts for facilitating the progress of MSMEs in a bid to also drive the country’s economy.
