Jokowi urges all governors to encourage public spending

The government must encourage the public to spend as much as possible to boost our economic growth

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on all governors across Indonesia to encourage public spending in a bid to drive national economic growth.”The government must encourage the public to spend as much as possible to boost our economic growth,” the head of state noted at the 2023 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Association of Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Thursday.

Jokowi reminded the governors of their obligation to maintain and increase household consumption. In 2022, Jokowi reported that public consumption or household consumption had reached 4.93 percent. To this end, he is upbeat that by 2024, the public consumption rate would be recorded at 5.4 percent.

“If this happens, then economic growth will automatically increase. Therefore, matters related to public spending should not be held back by regional governments,” he emphasized.

The president cited examples of small steps that could be taken by regional governments, such as by organizing art and sports performances to encourage public spending.

In 2022, public spending that was withheld and not spent or stayed in bank savings had reached Rp690 trillion. This shows that people are holding back on consumption, he stated.

“That means, people have held back their consumption. They did not want to buy new stuffs or go to the market, restaurants, mall, or any shop. It was better for them to keep the money,” Jokowi stated.

Moreover, the head of state urged governors to encourage public spending, as it helps to maintain economic growth.

“Right now, we must encourage our people to spend their money. It is not a saving phase anymore. This year is different because we need economic growth to be maintained, and if possible, it must be increased,” the president concluded.

Speaking in connection as to whether the ban is extended to Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), the secretary general emphasized that the ministry’s stance remains unchanged.

Mulyana, who replaced Acting Director General Dhahana Putra.

While directing his officials, he urged the Law Directorate General to utilize all existing resources to fulfill various major tasks.

He emphasized that the regulations created or issued by the government should not end up harming the people.

Laoly also reminded his officials to strengthen the implementation of digitalization of public services, especially since digitalization had to be undertaken to facilitate the public regardless of whether they were keen on it or not.

Laoly also expects that the harmonization step can facilitate and expedite performance.

Meanwhile, Mulyana stated that following his inauguration, he will prepare a list of various crucial problems faced by the institution that he led while continuing the programs of the previous director.

“We will create policies and take actions that can resolve these issues,” he remarked.

Mulyana expects support from various parties, especially officials from the Law Directorate General.

Earlier, Law and Human Rights Ministry’s official, Ferry Gunawan, underlined the importance of harmonizing digital transformation-related regulations created by the central and regional governments to avoid overlapping regulations.

Regulations issued by regional governments should be aligned with the regulations created by the central government, Gunawan stated during the “Mapping Indonesia’s Digital Infrastructure Challenges” event streamed online on Tuesday.

He did not deny disharmony between the regulations created by the regional governments and the regulations issued by ministries or institutions at the central government level.

unawan believes this disharmony is one of the causes behind overregulation.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has continued to push for the development of digital talent to optimize the potential of Society 5.0.”To face Society 5.0, Indonesia needs superior and competitive human resources, especially those with digital literacy and skills,” he said at the 8th Congress of the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (SEMMI) on Thursday.

“Of course, I hope that the younger generation has the literacy skills for digitalization,” he added.

The government has prepared a number of programs to encourage increased digital literacy and skills, such as the Pre-Employment Card program and National Digital Literacy Program.

The government has also continued to encourage the younger generation to inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit so that they can establish start-ups to create a variety of digital solutions and innovations for society.

“Students must also develop leadership skills. This ability can be grown and honed if the student is always active in student organizations and activity units,” said Hartarto.

Ministry ups coordination to prevent airplane burning incidents

Security issues are an important part of pioneering services. One of the aspects that we will collaborate with related stakeholders on is the security plan

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Transportation Ministry is increasing collaboration with ministries, agencies, and local governments to maintain security at pioneer transport airports to prevent incidents such as the recent burning of an airplane in Paro sub-district, Nduga district, Papua.”Security issues are an important part of pioneering services. One of the aspects that we will collaborate with related stakeholders on is the security plan,” director of air transportation at the ministryPutu Eka Cahyadisaid during a media talk at the Ministry of Transportation’s Office, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Cahyadi acknowledged that security issues in the pioneering aircraft areas in underdeveloped, outermost, and border areas (3T) are among the challenges to the ministry’s efforts to develop connectivity for the community.

However, he emphasized that his party is continuously communicating with related parties to mitigate security plans.

“Security is a comprehensive aspect. Not only the airport but the vicinity. We must manage access to the airport as well,” he added.

He said that pioneer air transport exists to connect remote and underdeveloped areas that are difficult to access, with long travel times via land transportation of more than eight hours and limited availability of transportation modes and non-continuous schedules.

Pioneer air transport aims to support equitable development and reduction in price disparities. Local governments are also expected to raise public awareness regarding pioneering passenger and cargo aviation activities, he added.

Cahyadi informed that in 2022, a total of 295,845 passengers were transported using pioneer aircraft, with flight frequency reaching 39,750 on 228 passenger flight routes.

In 2023, there will be a decrease in the number of routes to 220 due to a decline in the List of Entries of Budget Execution (DIPA) from Rp550 billion in 2022 to Rp500 billion. The decline will also be seen in the number of pioneer cargo aircraft routes from 42 in 2022 to 41 in 2023, he said.

“Pioneer flights are served by 21 regional coordinators with 220 pioneer passenger flight routes and 41 cargo routes,” he said.
