Trade Ministry takes down 6,678 links selling MinyaKita oil

<description>

Jakarta – The Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Commerce Order (PKTN) of the Trade Ministry has taken down 6,678 online links selling subsidized cooking oil MinyaKita from several marketplaces and social media platforms.

“The ministry’s PKTN has taken down 6,678 links from several marketplaces and confiscated 937 carton boxes consisting of 11,246 liters (of MinyaKita oil) from some merchants selling the product on social media, such as Facebook and Instagram,” Minister Zulkifli Hasan informed in a statement issued here on Thursday.

The minister said that action is being taken against the merchants who violated regulations regarding the sale of MinyaKita, which led to a drop in cooking oil supply in the market and pushed the price of oil above its highest retail price of Rp14 thousand (US$0.89).

The supervision has been conducted according to Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection and Law No. 7 of 2014 on Trade, as amended by Law No. 11 of 2022 on Job Creation, he disclosed.

Hasan urged merchants not to exploit the high demand for cooking oil among the people.

Merchants producing and selling MinyaKita must also observe the Trade Minister’s Regulation No. 49 of 2022 on cooking oil program management, he added.

“Cooking oil products packaged as MinyaKita products must not be sold beyond the Rp14 thousand highest retail price and without any purchase restriction,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, Director General Veri Anggrijono said that merchants found selling MinyaKita products at prices above the highest retail price online will be sanctioned.

The sanctions will involve a written warning and grave violations will lead to a revocation of trade and business permits, based on Article 80 of Government Regulation No. 80 of 2019 and Article 23 of Trade Minister’s Regulation No. 49 of 2022, he informed.

“The Trade Ministry will also coordinate with regional authorities to ensure the product is sold according to its mandated retail price,” Anggrijono said.

He added that merchants selling MinyaKita products illegally via social media could have their social media accounts blocked by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

Golden Indonesia goal demands transformation in all aspects: Ministry

<description>

Jakarta – The Golden Indonesia 2045 development vision emphasizes transformation in all aspects of the community’s life, according to deputy for economy at the National Development Planning Ministry, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti.

“The approach to Indonesia’s development in the future will change. From only reformation, we will move toward transformation because reformation is not enough to realize Golden Indonesia 2045,” she said at “The Future is Now: Collaborative Action to Achieve Indonesia Vision 2045” discussion on Thursday.

There are many transformations that will need to be made to achieve the vision, starting from social, economic, to governance transformations, which will be supported by the enablers of the transformations, including stability, financing, and socioecological resilience, she explained.

According to Widyasanti, the transformation of all aspects of life will be realized through regional policies, supported by massive efforts to develop infrastructure.

Therefore, efforts to reduce inequality and improve connectivity can also support Indonesia’s transformation measures.

According to Widyasanti, Indonesia’s transformation will be strengthened by implementation principles and strong diplomacy, which must become an essential part of the joint effort to achieve the 2045 vision.

She further said that one of the efforts for Indonesia’s economic transformation is increasing productivity.

Thus, the structure of the economy needs to shift to a more productive direction and economic complexity needs to be increased so that Indonesia’s economy can grow by an average of 6 percent.

She further emphasized that high economic growth should not be followed by an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and inequality.

“We must grow high, but inclusively and sustainably, meaning that the high economic growth will also be accompanied by a decrease in inequality and greenhouse gas emissions,” she said.

Ministry seeks fair legal process in Cimahi child abuse case

<description>

Jakarta – The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection has asked law enforcement to uphold fair legal process against AN, 37, who has been accused of abusing his biological children in Cimahi city, West Java.

“AN is threatened with criminal sanctions under the Child Protection Law, Article 80, Paragraphs (1), (2), (3), and (4), with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years, plus one-third of the main sentence because the perpetrator is a biological parent; therefore, the prison sentence can be up to 20 years and/or a fine of Rp3 billion,” the ministry’s deputy of special protection for children Nahar said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Currently, AN has been named a suspect in the case and has been detained at Cimahi Police Station. Meanwhile, the victims’ stepmother has also been examined by police officials, who are continuing to investigate the case.

The ministry strongly condemns the alleged abuse perpetrated by AN against his two biological children, a 10-year-old girl, AH, and a 12-year-old boy, AMN, Nahar said.

The abuse claimed the life of the 10-year-old girl, while her older brother suffered serious injuries on his body, head, and face. He is currently receiving intensive treatment at a hospital in Cimahi.

“The ministry will continue to oversee the handling of violence cases and ensure that the child will receive treatment at the hospital, including assistance and recovery, both physically and psychologically. We will continue to coordinate with the Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) West Java and Cimahi city for steps to assist the victim,” Nahar said.

The case came to light on February 6, 2023, when AN was reported for abusing his biological children in their rented house in Cimahi city.

AN’s cruel treatment was allegedly caused by anger over his son taking money without permission.

The two children were living with their biological father and stepmother. Their biological mother works in Saudi Arabia.

Lampung asks districts, cities to control inflation ahead of Ramadan

<description>

Bandarlampung, Lampung – Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi has asked city and district governments in the province to continuously focus on controlling inflation, especially ahead of Ramadan in March.

“The current inflation in Lampung province in January 2023 stood at 5.95 percent (yoy) and is ranked as the fifth lowest in Sumatra (island),” he said in a statement received on Thursday.

According to him, the commodities that have contributed the most to inflation are foods, beverages, rice, red chillies, shallots, and chicken eggs.

As of Tuesday, the prices of several commodities showed an upward trend compared to the previous week. The commodities that need to receive attention are cooking oil, curly red chillies, red bird’s eye chillies, and green bird’s eye chillies.

“It is essential to encourage the relevant institutions and districts and cities to synergize in building communication to keep inflation under control and maintain people’s purchasing power, especially ahead of Ramadan,” he said.

All parties need to maintain the prices of commodities that can trigger an increase in inflation, especially ahead of Ramadan and religious holidays, Djunaidi added.

He stated that swift action is needed to tackle the limited supply of food commodities and maintain food price stability, especially in regions with high inflation rates.

“Immediately handle commodities that can trigger inflation. Then, city and district governments, relevant institutions, and entrepreneurs, we all must synergize to protect Lampung from inflation jointly,” he added.

He said that, apart from carrying out meetings to discuss inflation control, it is also necessary to maintain food reserves in order to maintain price stability, encourage business actors to maintain supply and prices, and ensure that regional governments carry out routine monitoring of prices.

“Let us protect our region, do not let any commodity trigger (a spike in the) inflation rate due to an increase in price and scarcity of supply,” the governor added.

Singkawang’s harmony capital for tourism development: Minister Uno

Pontianak, West Kalimantan – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has lauded the harmony in Singkawang, anointed as the most tolerant city in Indonesia, saying this will be a huge capital to develop the city’s tourism and culture.

“This is indeed a huge capital for Singkawang as a tourism city in West Kalimantan as, besides tourists visiting the city to enjoy the city’s beauty, the city’s culture and tolerance are also something that must be emulated by other regions,” Uno observed during his visit to Singkawang, West Kalimantan, on Thursday.

Uno said that he made his visit to fulfill a promise to Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie.

The minister then praised the Singkawang mayor and all parties who have protected the “precious tolerance” in the city, a melting pot for the Chinese, Dayak, and Malay communities who have lived there in harmony for centuries.

“We have seen the Cidayu (Chinese, Dayak, and Malay) cultural wisdom in Singkawang, which symbolizes harmony and reflects the unity and diversity in this city,” he noted.

Singkawang shows the whole meaning of tolerance, and the people must continue enhancing the spirit of unity to avoid conflict, he added.

Uno said that he was also amazed at Singkawang residents’ willingness to collaborate during the Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh, the local name for the Lantern Festival.

“The Chinese New Year and the Cap Go Meh agendas have become international agenda, hence, all parties in Singkawang must innovate to develop the city’s tourism,” the minister remarked.

During his visit to Singkawang, Uno observed the attractions of Cidayu culture and a Tatung performance, which involves “possessed” performers who carry out dangerous acts, such as self-piercing their cheek with a metal rod. The minister also visited the Tjhia Family House, a cultural heritage in the city.
