B20 task force stresses just, inclusive energy transition

The Energy, Sustainability, and Climate Task Force (ESC TF) of the 2022 G20 Business 20 (B20) is emphasizing realizing a just and inclusive energy transition, Chairperson of the task force Nicke Widyawati has said.

“The ESC TF of the B20 has formulated three recommendations, which will be discussed as priority issues, namely accelerating the transition to sustainable energy use, ensuring a fair and affordable transition, and (encouraging) global cooperation to improve energy accessibility,” she informed in a statement issued here on Friday.

B20 is the official dialogue forum for the global business community for providing practical policy recommendations from a business viewpoint to the G20.

According to the ESC TF chairperson, energy transition is on the agenda of all countries and must be supported to meet the targets of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

“The energy transition will certainly change everything, starting from the use of fossil fuel-based technology, markets, and financial products,” she remarked.

The energy transition must be implemented in green financing, supply chains of the economy and green energy, the latest business models, sustainable governance, and the political economy of the country and the region, Widyawati said.

She further said she expects that through the B20 forum, Indonesia will invite all stakeholders to collaborate and ensure the world’s success in meeting inclusive and equitable sustainable development targets.

Meanwhile, chairperson of 2022 G20 B20, Shinta Kamdani, said that in the 2000–2019 period, all countries in the world spent huge sums on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions due to the use of fossil fuels.

The world has lost hundreds of billions of dollars to handle carbon emissions during the period. Hence, the ESC TF has recommended a number of policies and efforts that need to be taken during the energy transition phase.

“B20 Indonesia attempts to provide a solution and a connecting bridge to avoid the bigger impact of climate change, which causes global disasters,” Kamdani said.

According to Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Arsjad Rasjid, the energy transition would have many positive impacts on the Indonesian economy and the world.

He said that energy transition efforts would ease the burden on the state budget from providing fossil energy subsidies.

In addition, the downstreaming of Indonesia’s natural resources, such as nickel, could contribute to building a green economic ecosystem, especially for the electric car and solar panel industries, which require nickel as raw material for batteries and panels.

Ministry urges MUX providers to push set-top box distribution

The Communication and Informatics Ministry has asked multiplexer (MUX) providers to push the distribution of free set-top boxes (STBs) to people from the lower socioeconomic classes to support the analog switch-off (ASO), which refers to the transition from analog to digital TV.

Director of broadcasting at the Directorate General of Post and Information Technology of the Communication and Information Ministry, Geryantika Kurnia, said that the switch-off is necessary to make digital TV services accessible to everyone.

“For the organizers of MUX, please also pursue the distribution of set-top boxes. Why should it be pursued? So that the poor people in this republic can get a set-top box,” Kurnia said while speaking in a webinar on Friday.

As many as 6.7 million set-top boxes will be distributed free of charge to them, he said. Multiplexer operators will provide 4.2 million set-top boxes, while the remaining 2.5 million units will be provided by the government.

However, so far, the number of free set-top boxes distributed by multiplexer providers has remained relatively low, he said.

He gave the example of SCM Group, which needs to distribute 1.2 million free set-top boxes, but until now, it has only distributed about 35 thousand units, or 3 percent of the target.

Meanwhile, MNC Group, which has committed to distributing 1.1 million new set-top box units, has distributed around 15 thousand units, or only 1.4 percent of the target.

“Trans TV’s commitment of 600 thousand (set-top boxes, and it) has only distributed around 12,800, or about more than 2 percent; RTV (has committed to distributing) 500 thousand (units, but) has only distributed 8,200 (units), or about 1.6 percent; VIVA 150 thousand more of commitment, it’s not finished yet, (with) only 7,300 (units distributed); and Metro, which has a commitment of 700 (thousand units), has only distributed 7 thousand (units), only about 1 percent (of the target),” he said.

Moreover, the number of free set-top boxes distributed by the government has so far reached 185,548 units or 18.6 percent.

Kurnia urged multiplexer organizers to push for information dissemination about ASO on analog TV channels. Based on a survey, 90 percent of the people who know about ASO learned about it from analog TV shows, he said.

“So, the more intensively the information is broadcast, the easier it will be for people to shift to digital TV broadcasts,” he added.

BBSPJIA can help mitigate food security challenges: Industry Ministry

The Center for Agro-Based Industry Standardization and Services (BBSPJIA), under the Industry Ministry, has a huge role to play in contributing to the mitigation of food security problems and supporting the country’s manufacturing sector.

“The BBSPJIA needs to contribute to mitigating food security (problems),” Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita remarked while inspecting the flour testing process at BBSPJIA’s commodities laboratory in Bogor, as quoted from his statement here on Friday.

The agro-industry subsector, which encompasses the F&B industry, is one of the largest contributors to the GDP from manufacturing, the minister highlighted.

“In future, the geopolitical impacts of the Russo-Ukrainian (war) and also in other regions will pose challenges for the industrial sector. Hence, it is important to prepare BBSPJIA to be able to support the growth of the agro-based industry in Indonesia,” Kartasasmita noted.

To provide better service, the BBSPJIA is also supported by complete instruments, such as Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometry (LC MS / MS) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC MS / MS) that are essential to support halal testing and mycotoxin testing.

“Food testing is a top service at BBSPJIA, with the support of seven laboratories, 195 commodities, and more than 300 parameters,” BBSPJIA Head Siti Rohmah Siregar remarked.

To increase its competence, the BBSPJIA has established domestic and international cooperation, one of them being part of the ARISE Plus, economic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union.

Since 2018, the BBSPJIA has also been designated as the Indonesian Food Testing Reference Laboratory (LRPPI) for the scope of parameters for heavy metal contamination and mycotoxins on food raw materials and ingredients.

“BBSPJIA is also preparing to support the implementation of ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’, especially for the food and beverage industry, which is one of the seven priority industries,” Siregar pointed out.

Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train trial in Nov: deputy minister

Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo is aiming to hold the trial of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train in November to coincide with the implementation of the G20 Summit.

“We will conduct a trial in November 2022 coinciding with the G20 Summit. We will test the Tegalluar-Kopo track,” he informed while attending the inaugural arrival of high-speed train cars at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, on Friday.

He also said that the arrival of the high-speed train cars in Indonesia is a form of readiness ahead of the G20 activities in November.

President Joko Widodo is planning to make a working visit to review the progress of the high-speed train project and board the inspection train (EMU-CIT) from DK 127 to Tegalluar Station with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“By God’s will, the trial will be on time with the schedule and also during the G20 Summit. But we will see the updates later,” Wirjoatmodjo said.

The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train cars (KCJB) that arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, on Friday were the first to arrive in Indonesia and ASEAN.

The arrival of the KCJB train cars is part of the preparation for the G20 Summit, which will be held in November. The train will undergo dynamic tests at the same time as the G20 event.

Currently, PT KCIC, together with a consortium of contractors, is continuing to accelerate various developments and prepare for the needs ahead of the dynamic test and next year’s operation.

Earlier, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi informed that the high-speed train has advanced technology called Grade of Automation (GOA) Level 1 and a slim design, which will allow it to reach a speed of up to 350 kilometers (km) per hour. The train will have five stops and serve 68 trips per day.

The development of the KCJB as an eco-friendly, efficient, and safe mass transportation mode is expected to increase people’s interest in using public transportation rather than private vehicles, he said.

The G20 Summit will be attended by the heads of government of G20 member countries, comprising South Africa, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey, and the European Union.

Ministry targets Jakarta-Bandung fast train to operate from June 2023

Second Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo targets the operation of Jakarta Bandung Fast Train (KCJB) to commence in June 2023 following the first arrival of the train series in Indonesia on September 2.

“The target is to get it operational on June 2023,” Wirjoatmodjo stated while witnessing the arrival of the inaugural Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train series at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, on Friday.

He also noted that the trial for the high-speed train would be conducted in November 2022.

“Thank God, the first Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train series has arrived in Indonesia. The arrival of this high-speed train series is good news for Indonesia and shows that Indonesia can compete with other developed countries,” he stated.

The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train series arrived at the Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, on Friday. It was the first high-speed train series to arrive in Indonesia and the ASEAN.

President Director of PT KCIC Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi said that two trainsets or a series of high-speed trains had arrived at the Pier 200-2021 Tanjung Priok Non-Container Port.

The two trainsets in question comprised one series of inspection trains and one series of KCIC400AF fast trains for passengers.

The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train series will be delivered in four batches. After the first arrival, there would be more to come on December 25, 2022; February 25, 2023; and March 15, 2023.

After arriving in Tanjung Priok, the entire series of KCIC400AF would be sent to the Tegalluar Depot. It would be reassembled into one unit.

The items would be delivered by land. In the process, PT KCIC had coordinated with some stakeholders, such as Pelindo and Jasa Marga.

The delivery process was conducted only from Monday to Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. local time, in which the traffic flow was not high. The delivery process to Tegalluar Depot is expected to not interfere with the traffic flow.
