Muaro Jambi was oldest education center in Asia: President Jokowi

The Muaro Jambi Temple Compound was the oldest educational center in Asia, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

“The National Cultural Heritage Area (KCBN) of Muaro Jambi Temple, Jambi Province, used to be an educational center for medicine, philosophy, architecture, and the arts,” President Jokowi stated during his visit to Muaro Jambi Temple, Jambi Province, on Thursday.

Jokowi explained that Muaro Jambi Temple was an educational center in the seventh century, including the largest and oldest in Asia.

While entering the temple area, it becomes apparent from the presence of rocks piled up to form a building.

The stacked stones make up the structure that is built without the use of cement and adhesives. At that time, Indonesia was familiar with technology in the field of development.

The National Cultural Heritage Area (KCBN) of the Muaro Jambi Temple has an area spanning 3,981 hectares. Several temples, including the Kedaton Temple, Tinggi Temple, and Gumpung Temple, are used as educational centers.

In fact, several temples are still in the process of restoration and have not been restored.

“This is history that needs to be preserved, so that traces of our civilization are not lost,” Jokowi stated.

President Jokowi explained that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology would again conduct restoration of the old canal that surrounds the Muaro Jambi Temple compound.

The restoration is expected to showcase the magnificence of the Muaro Jambi Temple compound.

During his visit to the Muaro Jambi Temple compound, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Jokowi walked through Kedaton Temple, one of the temples in Muaro Jambi.

On arriving at Kedaton Temple, President Jokowi was briefed on the history of Muaro Jambi Temple and the area and civilization of Muaro Jambi Temple at that time.

At Kedaton Temple, the president visited the excavation and saw finds in the form of stones, jugs, and ceramics around a thousand-year-old temple site. Furthermore, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Jokowi performed a ritual of washing hands with water from a well at the location of Kedaton Temple.

After inspecting the well, the president approached the clock stone that was used by the community to determine the time by utilizing sunlight.

The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry dispatched a team to survey venues for the ASEAN Para Games XI 2022 in Solo, Central Java, on Thursday.

General chairman of the National Paralympic Committee, Senny Marbun, said that the ministry’s team, which was divided into four groups, scouted venues in Karanganyar, Sukoharjo, and Solo.

The first team inspected the swimming venue at Intan Pari Karanganyar and the table tennis venue at RM Said Karanganyar Sports Center. The second team reviewed the sitting volleyball venue at the Solo Tunas Pembangunan University (UTP) Sports Center, the goalball venue at the Solo Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Sports Center, and the CP football venue at UNS Solo Stadium.

The third team surveyed the badminton venue at the Surakarta Muhammadiyah University Edutorium in Sukoharjo, the Solo Manahan Stadium for the opening and closing event, as well as the archery venue at Solo Kotabarat Field.

The fourth team inspected the wheelchair tennis court and athletic track at Manahan Stadium, the boccia venue at the Sports Science University Manahan Sports Center, and the judo venue at the Tirtonadi Convention Hall Solo.

The fourth team also reviewed the Manahan Solo tennis court. The team checked the condition of both the field and toilets for disabled athletes who will compete in the Asian Para Games and then head to the athletic track at Manahan Stadium, Solo.

According to the manager of the NPC Indonesia Tennis Team, Yasin Onasie, his administration has suggested to the ministry’s team that the entire tennis court venue be repainted, ramps be installed for improving access, and six toilets for the disabled be repaired since they were used for the 2011 APG in Solo.

The Manahan Solo tennis court venue already has facilities for people with disabilities, and not many renovations would be needed, so it was estimated that in three months, it would be ready to be used for the 2022 APG XI wheelchair tennis match.

“I estimate that the renovation of the tennis court venue in Manahan will take about two and a half months to complete,” he said.

He explained that the tennis venue in Manahan that would be used for the matches has four outdoor courts and two indoor courts. An indoor court will be used to warm up athletes, but may also be used for matches in rainy conditions.

A member of the fourth team from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, M. Iqbal Hilmi, said that currently, the team is only looking at the condition of the venues and the recommendations provided by NPC Indonesia would be used as inputs to report to the ministry.
