Thirat Provides Emergency Housing to Sisaket Border Disaster Victims

Sisaket: Thirat has taken significant steps in aiding the victims of the recent Sisaket border disaster by donating knock-down houses and essential consumer goods. Thirat's visit to the affected region underscores the government's resolve to restore normalcy swiftly.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Teerarat Samretwanit, Deputy Minister of the Interior, conducted a field visit to inspect the homes damaged by shrapnel from the Thai-Cambodian border conflict in the Kantharalak District of Sisaket Province. Accompanying her were Pol. Maj. Gen. Surasit Sangkhaphong, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister's Office; Mr. Anupong Suksomnit, Governor of Sisaket Province; Mr. Thanathorn Srinak, Director of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center, Region 13, Ubon Ratchathani; and Petty Officer 1st Class Somkuan Singkham, District Chief of Kantharalak District.

During the visit, Ms. Thirat and her team extended support to Mr. Thongsuk Khamkaew, Assistant Village Headman for Peacekeeping, and the Village Defense Volunteers of Ban Sok Kham Pom, Phu Pha Mok Subdistrict. The team also visited damaged homes in Ban Phum Soron, Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, aiming to expedite housing assistance.

Ms. Thirat highlighted that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, acting as Prime Minister, tasked her with providing support for housing repairs using the approved 100 million baht budget. Knock-down houses have been distributed to over 15 families whose homes were destroyed.

She noted that the governor of Sisaket Province is collaborating with the Sisaket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and other agencies to provide immediate assistance. These efforts have resulted in several knock-down houses being ready for occupancy.

Ms. Thirat emphasized the importance of ensuring safe housing with essential utilities for the affected families. The Ministry of Interior, through the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, is assessing the damage to ensure appropriate compensation and care. Volunteers are actively working to repair homes, and those in need of knock-down houses are encouraged to contact local authorities or the 1784 hotline.

Ms. Thirat expressed gratitude to all agencies and volunteers, including the Village Defense Volunteers, for their assistance during this crisis. She reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring a swift recovery and return to normalcy for all citizens.
