Thai Prime Minister to Attend APEC Meeting in Peru to Boost Investment Opportunities.

Bangkok: APEC welcomes Thai Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, who is set to fly to Peru this week for an important meeting aimed at presenting her vision and showcasing Thailand's potential to attract more investors. Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, the government spokesman, revealed that the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Los Angeles, United States, before attending the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Republic of Peru, from November 10-18, 2024. During her U.S. visit, she will meet with Team Thailand, presenting policies to ambassadors, consuls-general, and heads of Team Thailand offices in the Americas to enhance cooperation with countries in the region. The focus will be on people-centered policies, emphasizing security, human security, and promoting trade and investment in future industries targeted by Thailand. Additionally, the Prime Minister will promote cooperation in science, technology, innovation, clean energy, the green economy, and soft power developmen t. According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister will also engage with the Thai community in the United States, which numbers over 400,000 people, with Los Angeles being home to the largest Thai community abroad, approximately 107,000 individuals. Many of these residents are self-employed, working in Thai restaurants or pursuing education at various levels. Mr. Jirayu further detailed the Prime Minister's itinerary for the 31st APEC Leaders' Meeting in Lima, which includes discussions with economic leaders from the 21 member countries, including the United States, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and others. APEC leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council will hold discussions during a lunch reception at the APEC Private Sector Summit 2024 and the APEC Economic Leaders' Retreat. The Prime Minister plans to utilize this global forum to demonstrate Thailand's commitment to participating in multilateral dialogues, fostering trust, and ensuring continuity of Thai government policies. She intends to highlight Thaila nd's readiness to advance the Bangkok Goals on the BCG Economy and engage in bilateral discussions with economic leaders, including Ms. Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, President of Peru, to encourage further investment in Thailand. APEC, established in 1989, is an economic cooperation forum with the primary aim of promoting trade and investment liberalization and fostering cooperation in social and developmental dimensions to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the region. The forum currently consists of 21 member economies, including Thailand, Australia, Canada, Japan, China, and the United States, among others. APEC operates on principles of consensus, equality, and mutual benefit, with the 2021 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting endorsing the Putrajaya Vision 2040 to guide APEC's future operations, focusing on free trade, innovation and digital utilization, and sustainable economic growth.
