Thai Government Seeks International Support to Address Border Issues with Cambodia

Bangkok: The government emphasized its commitment to using the international stage to resolve border issues, exposing Cambodia's insincerity. Pheu Thai Party reiterates that the government is urgently using the world stage to solve border problems, exposing Cambodia's insufficient honesty in dealing with landmines and scammers, and is ready to provide comprehensive relief to the public.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Khattiya Sawatdiphon, a party-list MP and deputy spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the Thai-Cambodian border situation at a weekly press conference. She stated that, following the resolution of border clashes, the government has been working in tandem on security, diplomacy, and public assistance, adhering to the highest principles of citizen life, property, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. All actions must adhere to principles universally recognized. At the RBC Eastern Regional Meeting in Chanthaburi and Trat on August 15-16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the 13-point framework agreed upon at the GBC. Thailand reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution through bilateral means under international rules and pushed forward two additional agenda items: landmine clearance to restore safety to border residents and the crackdown on transnational scam networks.

"Thailand has received less cooperation from the Cambodian authorities than expected. The Pheu Thai Party hopes that Cambodia will demonstrate its sincerity in the next round of discussions by providing concrete support for bomb disposal and demonstrating clear results in the fight against scammers," Ms. Khattiya said.

Regarding the case of Thai soldiers injured by anti-personnel mines, Ms. Khattiya stated that the government has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare a memorandum of evidence to be submitted to the Ottawa Convention Mechanism and has scheduled visits to several ambassadors. Regarding compensation, the government continues to implement measures to address both physical and mental health. The Ministry of Public Health has established mobile clinics and mental health teams, as well as measures to assist with water and electricity bills. Households and shelters in the area will be exempted during July and August. Regarding damage, the Ministry of Interior has instructed the Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning to establish building inspection centers in seven border provinces to establish repair standards. An inspection found damage to 300 houses in four provinces: Buriram, Sisaket, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani. Eleven temporary homes have been gradually delivered to families w hose homes were damaged, with more to be delivered.

Ms. Khattiya added that the Pheu Thai Party and the government would like to reaffirm that they will work diligently to address the people's issues, including the economy, security, and quality of life. Every baht of the budget represents hope and must be used to meet the needs of the people.
