PM Paethongtarn and Singapore’s PM Lawrence Wong Open New Chapter in Bilateral Relations.

Bangkok: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Thailand's Prime Minister, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, officially welcomed Singapore's Prime Minister, Mr. Lawrence Wong, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Thailand-Singapore relations. The leaders held a joint press conference to emphasize their commitment to enhancing green investment, fostering the digital economy, and strengthening ASEAN connectivity, with an aim towards sustainable development and mutual prosperity. According to Thai News Agency, the meeting saw the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between Thailand's Civil Service Commission and Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was witnessed by both Prime Ministers, highlighting the significance of their cooperation. Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office, provided insights into the discussions, noting Prime Minister Paethongtarn's honor in welcoming Mr. Wong as the first leader to officially visit Thailand since her appointment . Prior to this, the two leaders had met at the ASEAN Summit in Laos and the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Peru. The visit marks a pivotal moment for both countries as they prepare to celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations next year, paving the way for further high-level interactions. The dignitaries engaged in discussions on a wide range of topics, including enhancing people-to-people relations, national security, defense, trade, and investment. They also addressed issues critical to both nations such as food and energy security, and the advancement of the digital and green economy. Thailand expressed readiness to support Singapore's food security by exporting premium rice and organic eggs. Both leaders also focused on promoting green technology, renewable energy, and the bio-industry to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The press conference underscored the strong friendship between the two nations, with Thailand expressing gratitude for Singapore's educational suppo rt to Thai civil servants. They deliberated on human resource development, emphasizing educational exchanges to equip the workforce with necessary skills for the future. The leaders also expressed hopes for peace and stability in Myanmar, highlighting the importance of ASEAN's role in this endeavor. The cordial relations between Thailand and Singapore are expected to yield fruitful collaborations that enhance the prosperity and well-being of their peoples. Next year marks a crucial milestone in their relationship, and Prime Minister Paethongtarn hopes for even closer cooperation across various dimensions. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and was honored to be the first leader to visit Thailand officially under Prime Minister Paethongtarn's leadership. He welcomed the opportunity to expand cooperation in new areas like the green economy and food security and stressed the importance of accelerating digital connectivity in ASEAN. The signing of the MoU is seen as a step forward in strengthening cooperation between the civil servants of both nations, setting the stage for the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations to further enhance ties across multiple dimensions.
