Chiang Rai: Secretary-General of the ONWR, Mr. Surasee Kittimondol, has revealed that the southern provinces of Thailand should brace for a second storm. The warning comes amidst ongoing concerns related to the La Niña phenomenon, which is expected to bring another storm in mid-December. Residents are urged to prioritize safety and heed government advice, with expectations that the situation will improve in about two weeks.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kittimondol, speaking at the Sai Lom Joy Market in Mae Sai District, emphasized the government’s urgency in addressing the flood crisis. Plans include controlled water discharge from Bang Lang Dam to ensure downstream levels do not exceed two meters above ground. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Mr. Prasert Jantruangthong, will oversee the situation during his visit on December 6 as Chairman of the National Water Resources Committee.

ot to rush home. Safety measures and shelters are in place, with police safeguarding properties. The ONWR has implemented ten measures since October 26, including a front center in Yala Province to manage regional response. Despite proactive communication, heavier-than-expected rainfall has impacted areas beyond the southern border provinces, necessitating coordinated efforts from river basin committees.
