“Kru Manit” disagrees, cancels field trips

Kru Manit" disagrees with the cancellation of field trips, stressing that children must gain experience outside the classroom, urging control of vehicle standards and appropriateness instead. Mr. Krumanit Sangphum, MP for Surin, Pheu Thai Party, as Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Transport, spoke about the case where Pol. Gen. Phemphun Chidchob, Minister of Education, ordered the indefinite suspension of field trips. As a former teacher, he disagreed because field trips are a lesson and an important experience for students. They are happy when they go there. We cannot fix the problem at the end of the line, but we should limit the number of students in each grade level to a certain distance. For example, if students are in Surin Province and a field trip is in Bangkok, they will be tired. Therefore, it should be organized nearby and the distances should be divided according to grade level. The Ministry of Education should have more measures for this, including the types of vehicles tha t must be used. Mr. Krumanit said that as a former teacher, he thought that teachers should find cheap vehicles to use as food expenses for children. Anything that can help the school save money, they will think like that. He did not blame the teachers, but if the Ministry of Education wanted to control this matter, they had to come up with measures to control it, such as the recent case of bringing kindergarten children and sixth grade primary school children to sit in the same vehicle. He personally thought that the age difference was too much to be beneficial. Therefore, there should be an arrangement that is appropriate for each age group. He also emphasized that he still agrees with letting children gain experience outside the classroom. Source: Thai News Agency
