Kick Off ‘Water Management Efficiency Improvement Project’ to Enhance Agricultural Security.

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya: The Ministry of Agriculture has officially launched the 'Project to Increase Efficiency in Water Management in Low-lying Areas by the Government, Private Sector, and Farmers'. The initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Akara Prompao, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, during a ceremony attended by prominent figures such as Mr. Prayoon Insakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Mr. Decha Lekwichai, Deputy Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, among others. According to Thai News Agency, the project aims to enhance water drainage efficiency in the Chao Phraya Low-lying Area, a crucial rice-growing region frequently plagued by flooding during the rainy season. This initiative is designed to align agricultural practices with the changing seasons and weather conditions, promoting collaboration among the government, private sector, and farmers. The project will initially set up water pumping stations at four locations, including three in Thung Pho Phraya, Su phan Buri Province, and one at the Chao Chet Boat Traffic Gate in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, with live broadcasts from all sites. Mr. Akara emphasized that the project's activities in the Sena District would significantly benefit farmers in the Chao Phraya low-lying areas, such as Thung Phak Hai and Thung Pho Phraya. The initiative aims to provide rapid and efficient water drainage, minimize flooding issues, and increase planting opportunities, enabling farmers to plant and harvest crops in time for the flood season. This approach is expected to reduce risks and economic losses, bolster agricultural security, and positively impact the nation's economy and food security sustainably. Additionally, Mr. Akara engaged with local farmers, offering encouragement and support to the officials working on the ground.
