DGA confirms government apps are highly secure and meet world-class standards

DGA points out that 'State' apps have high personal data security with world-class standards, confirming that they do not link to bank accounts or store people's bank account information, emphasizing that Thai people should have confidence and install apps only through the App Store and Play Store. Ms. Airada Luengwilai, Deputy Director of the Digital Government Development Agency and Acting Director of the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), revealed that the 'Tang Rat' application is a government application developed to be a government service center for the public, connecting information and services from various government agencies in one place so that people of all ages can use government online services in a single application conveniently, quickly, safely, transparently, and verifiably. It is also a channel for registering to join the 10,000 baht top-up project via Digital Wallet. Therefore, before people can use the Tang Rat application, they must verify that the person who is about to use the Tang Rat application is a real citizen or not by having the citizen take a picture of their face and ID card to compare with the face picture and ID card information of the person in the government system to see if it matches or not. Or what is called KYC (Know Your Customer) to prevent others from accessing the information of that person or impersonating them, which is a reliable data protection and security measure that banks in Thailand use (IAL 2.3) according to the announcement of the Electronic Transactions Commission. At present, the government app is only a channel to link information and services from the original agency without collecting citizen information from the original agency to the government app in any way. And personal information displayed in the government app can only be accessed by the owner of the information and those who are legally authorized to access the information. In addition, the government app has measures to maintain the security of the system and various data, startin g from the design process and system development that encrypts data and uses modern identity verification technology by a team of expert engineers from the Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization) or DGA, together with a team of experts with experience in developing systems with a large number of users, focusing on data and system security. There is continuous system inspection and testing, including penetration testing and fixing vulnerabilities both before and during service to prevent hacking and unauthorized access to data and services according to international standards. In addition, state-of-the-art cybersecurity protection technology is used, as well as management and storage of personal data under the guidelines set by the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA) and in accordance with the Computer Crime Act (No. 2) B.E. 2560, the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562, and the Cybersecurity Act B.E. 2562, including the standards that the DGA has been certified with, such as ISO 27001 (Security Management), etc. In addition to the government app, it also provides services in a reliable and stable system, and has set up a war room to monitor the system and cyber threats with a team of expert engineers from the DGA, together with the NBTC and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society 24 hours a day. This can be proven from the first day of opening registration for the 10,000 baht top-up project via Digital Wallet, where there were ill-intended individuals who attempted to attack various related systems heavily since the first hour of opening registration, which was also the time when a huge number of people used the government app. However, the government app was still able to provide continuous services, supporting registrations for up to 18.8 million people within 24 hours, without the system crashing and without any data leakage issues. As for the question of whether the government app is an open system that connects to everyone's bank accounts, at present, the government app is not c onnected to bank accounts and does not store any bank account information of citizens. The government app allows government agencies to link their data and services to the government app only under a controlled and highly secure connection method. It does not allow the general public, private sector, or banks to link account data and service systems with the government app in any way. The bank app and e-wallet service providers participating in the 10,000 baht top-up project via Digital Wallet must link and transmit data to the government's central payment platform to support payments, which is a different system from the government app. Source: Thai News Agency
