DDPM reports flood situation in 6 provinces, 10,432 households affected, urgently draining water from the area and providing full assistance to people in the affected areas. At 10.00 a.m., Mr. Chaiwat Junthiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that due to the influence of the moderate monsoon trough across the upper North and the upper Northeast, entering the low-pressure cell in the upper part of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, along with the southwest monsoon still covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, while there are test winds of the southeast and southwest winds at the upper level covering the Northeast. Resulting in flash floods and forest runoff between 16-28 August 2024 in 17 provinces: Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phayao, Nan, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Nakhon Sawan, Phetchabun, Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Rayong, Phuket, Yala and Nakhon Si Thammarat, totaling 75 districts, 312 sub-districts, 1,694 vil lages, 51,730 households affected, 22 deaths, 19 injuries. Currently (data as of 28 August 2024), the situation still exists in 6 provinces, totaling 25 districts, 102 sub-districts, 609 villages, 10,432 households affected, as follows: 1) Chiang Rai: Flooding occurred in 12 districts: Wiang Chai District, Chiang Saen District, Pa Daet District, Phaya Mengrai District, Chiang Khong District, Khun Tan District, Mueang District, Phan District, Wiang Chiang Rung District, Mae Suai District, Mae Lao District, and Thoeng District, totaling 35 sub-districts, 194 villages, affecting 3,328 households, with 2 deaths. Water levels are decreasing. 2) Phayao: Flooding occurred in 6 districts: Pong, Chiang Muan, Dok Kham Tai, Phu Sang, Mueang, and Chiang Kham, totaling 40 sub-districts and 313 villages. 3,500 households were affected. There were 2 deaths. The water level has decreased. 3) Sukhothai: Flooding occurred in 4 districts: Mueang District, Si Samrong District, Sawankhalok District, and Si Satchanalai District , totaling 24 sub-districts, 90 villages, affecting 3,590 households. Water levels are stable. 4) Nakhon Sawan: Flooding occurred in Muang District, including 1 sub-district and 1 village. Water levels have decreased. 5) Flooding occurred in Muang District, including 1 sub-district and 1 village. Three households were affected. The water level has decreased. 6) Nong Bua Lamphu: Flooding occurred in Tha Li District, including 1 sub-district, 10 villages, affecting 11 households. Water levels have decreased. The overall situation is that the water level has decreased in all areas. Only Sukhothai Province has a stable water level. For solving the problem and providing assistance to people affected by the flood, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, by the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, has coordinated with the province, local administrative organizations, and relevant agencies to go to the area to help the victims and solve their problems urgently. They have mobilized a team of operational officers and disaster relief machinery, such as long-distance water pumps, water pumps, disaster relief vehicles, and drinking water production vehicles, to solve the problem, quickly drain water, alleviate the suffering of people affected by the disaster situation, and produce clean drinking water to distribute to the affected people. In terms of flood relief efforts in the North, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Royal Thai Army (RTA) have joined forces to send a KA-32 disaster relief helicopter, along with rescue personnel from the DDPM 32 helicopter, 'The Guardian Team,' to support the mission to help flood victims in the North and prepare for any disasters that may occur in the area. In addition, the DDPM has also sent an operational team with disaster relief machinery and vehicles from nearby disaster prevention and mitigation centers and disaster prevention and mitigation centers in other regions where there is no disaster situation to join the mis sion to help victims in the North, consisting of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 10 in Lampang, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 6 in Khon Kaen, and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 5 in Nakhon Ratchasima. For areas where the situation has improved, officials have been mobilized to restore the disaster-stricken areas to normal conditions as soon as possible so that people can return to their normal lives as soon as possible. Officials have also been dispatched to survey and compile an inventory of the damages in order to provide assistance in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Finance.
