Big Aun Orders Full Mobilization of Armed Forces for Southern Flood Relief.

Bangkok: "Big Aun" has directed all armed forces to mobilize urgently in response to severe flooding in Thailand's southern region, ensuring immediate assistance to affected communities. According to Thai News Agency, Maj. Gen. Thanathip Sawangsaeng, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, reported that persistent heavy rains in the lower southern region have resulted in widespread flooding and increased landslide risks. In response, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has called for the deployment of military machinery, equipment, and personnel to assist in the flood-stricken areas. The affected provinces include Surat Thani, Songkhla, Satun, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala, impacting over 136,219 households. The armed forces are coordinating with the provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and other relevant agencies to deliver urgent aid. Efforts include the deployment of the Office of Region 4 Development, Army Development Command, and Royal Thai Army Headquarters, which have sent personnel equipped with water pumps, rubber boats, and flat-bottomed boats. The Royal Thai Army's Disaster Relief Center, Region 4, has also dispatched over 500 personnel, along with 12 large trucks, 6 pickup trucks, 6 flat-bottomed boats, 223 life jackets, and other necessary equipment. Preventive measures and relief efforts are underway, involving the construction of sandbag barriers, evacuation of vulnerable individuals, relocation of vehicles and personal belongings to safer areas, and distribution of food and drinking water to affected households. Although water levels have started to recede in some locations, restoration and cleaning efforts continue. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasizes the importance of constant monitoring and assessment of the weather conditions and travel routes, as heavy rains persist and low-lying areas remain vulnerable to further flooding. This proactive approach aims to minimize the loss of life and property while ensuring timely support for affected residents.
