Bangkok: "Anutin" has directed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to deploy all available resources to mitigate the flooding impacting the southern region of Thailand. Plans are underway for Anutin and Ministry of Interior executives to visit the affected areas on November 29 to assess the situation and offer further assistance. Currently, floods are affecting seven provinces and have impacted 136,219 households. According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Minister of Interior and Spokesperson for the Ministry, reported that severe rainfall in the lower southern region has resulted in widespread flooding, with some areas facing the risk of mudslides. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation's latest report highlights the ongoing flood situation across 50 districts, 321 sub-districts, and 1,884 villages. The affected provinces include Surat Thani, where 91 households across Kanchanadit and Donsak districts are impacted. Nakhon Si Thammarat faces the brunt with 34,513 households affected across eight districts, including Cha-uat and Phrom Khiri. Songkhla has seen flooding in 15 districts, affecting 23,181 households, while Pattani's eight districts have 8,442 affected households. Yala Province reports 27,425 affected households across five districts. Narathiwat is experiencing the most significant impact, with 42,294 households affected in multiple districts. In Satun Province, Khuan Don district has 273 impacted households. In response to the situation, the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and mobile network providers, has disseminated flood warning SMS alerts to residents in the high-risk areas of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, covering 18 districts and 82 sub-districts. Deputy Interior Minister Ms. Sabida Thaiset has been assigned to oversee the situation in Narathiwat and Yala, ensuring that resources and personnel are mo bilized effectively. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has begun deploying relief machinery and personnel to support these efforts. As part of the ongoing response, Mr. Anutin and Ministry executives will visit the southern region to offer direct support and evaluate the needs of the affected communities.
