Bangkok: Thai rice exports have seen a substantial increase in the first 10 months of 2024, with a reported volume of 8.35 million tons, marking a 20.32% rise. The export value during this period reached 191,031 million baht, equivalent to approximately 5,411 million US dollars, reflecting a significant increase of 39.81%. Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, deputy government spokesman, revealed these figures, noting that the most exported rice type was ‘white rice,’ constituting 62.04% of the total export volume. This was followed by Thai jasmine rice at 16.40%, parboiled rice at 12.10%, Thai fragrant rice at 6.47%, glutinous rice at 2.75%, and brown rice at 0.24%.
According to Thai News Agency, the ‘Department of Foreign Trade’ and the ‘Thai Rice Exporters Association’ have jointly projected that Thai rice exports for the entire year of 2024 could reach up to 9 million tons, with an estimated value of 230,000 million baht. The average FOB export prices over the past 10 months, as reported by the ‘Thai Chamber of Comm
erce,’ indicate that ‘Jasmine rice (new rice)’ averaged 935 US dollars/ton, a rise of 7.59%. ‘Pathum Thani fragrant rice (Thai fragrant rice)’ set a record as the highest price increase among all types of rice, averaging 875 US dollars/ton, up by 24.64%. ‘White rice’ averaged 603 US dollars/ton, showing an increase of 11.67%, while ‘Steamed rice’ averaged 601 US dollars/ton, with a 10.89% rise, and ‘Glutinous rice’ averaged 818 US dollars/ton, growing by 0.62%.
Mr. Anukul further stated that the rise in export rice prices has positively impacted domestic ‘paddy prices.’ According to the ‘Department of Internal Trade,’ ‘jasmine rice’ averages 15,547 baht/ton, showing an increase of 7.85%. ‘Pathum Thani fragrant rice (Thai fragrant rice)’ averages 14,928 baht/ton, up by 29.16%. ‘Glutinous rice (white rice/parboiled rice)’ averages 11,686 baht/ton, marking a 9.87% increase, while ‘sticky rice’ averages 13,661 baht/ton, reflecting a 6.70% rise.
