Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police have reported significant progress in their efforts to combat crime across the nation, with nearly 500,000 criminal cases resolved in 2024. The comprehensive crackdown included over 200,000 drug-related cases and 30,000 online offenses, as authorities continue to prioritize public safety and crime prevention.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Archayon Kraithong, the spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, highlighted the dedication and effectiveness of law enforcement under the leadership of Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief. The police have undertaken a robust initiative to prevent and suppress crime in alignment with government policies, achieving a 93 percent arrest rate from over 500,000 criminal cases reported between January 1 and December 26, 2024.
The police addressed five main groups of criminal activities, resulting in the arrest of 196,148 suspects. Notably, serious and shocking crimes saw a 95 percent arrest rate, while crimes against life and property had arrest rates of 95 percent and 93 percent, respectively. Efforts to tackle crimes where the state was a victim resulted in a 97 percent arrest rate.
Drug-related offenses remained a top priority, with the Royal Thai Police establishing a dedicated drug suppression center. A total of 249,029 drug cases were investigated, leading to 241,607 arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances, including over 1 billion methamphetamine pills. Authorities also issued 1,362 arrest warrants and prosecuted 208 money laundering cases.
The Royal Thai Police also focused on technology crimes and online gambling, receiving over 305,000 online complaints, which amounted to 35,416 million baht in damages. Their efforts led to 33,280 arrests and the freezing of 336,943 accounts.
In addition to crime suppression, the Royal Thai Police initiated projects to aid public welfare, including financial management training for police officers and New Year gifts for the public. These initiatives include the "Cyber Check" project to prevent online scams and improved emergency reporting for tourists.
The National Police Chief is committed to furthering government policies and enhancing police operations to ensure public safety and trust. The focus remains on tackling drug-related crimes, online offenses, and fraud, with an emphasis on transparency and adherence to legal principles.
