Rama 2 Road Reopens After Beam Collapse Recovery Efforts.

Bangkok: All bodies of the victims of the Rama 2 Road beam collapse have been successfully recovered. The tragic incident involved the collapse of a steel construction beam on the elevated road site, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to nine others. Efforts by officials from various sectors, including the Samut Sakhon Highways District and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, led to the recovery of the bodies, including the last missing person, Mr. Piew Koko, an 18-year-old Myanmar national, who was taken to Samut Sakhon Hospital early this morning. According to Thai News Agency, the fatalities consisted of two Thai nationals and four Burmese nationals, while the injured included four Thais and five Burmese. Among the injured, three individuals have been discharged from the hospital, with six still receiving treatment. In response to the incident, the governor of Samut Sakhon Province, along with relevant agencies and representatives from the construction company, inspe cted the site to devise a plan for traffic management and road surface restoration. The debris has yet to be cleared from the outbound lanes, and officials recommend using the Ekkachai bypass for those traveling out of Bangkok. Traffic remains congested, with ongoing efforts to find additional bypass routes and sufficient police deployment to manage the situation. Efforts are underway to remove the damaged construction crane from the site to reopen the lanes for traffic. The construction company's engineer plans to start by removing the crane on the Bangkok-bound side, awaiting a 500-ton forklift's arrival to facilitate this task. The removal of the upper construction crane is expected to be completed within seven days, enabling the reopening of the express lane inbound to Bangkok. The removal of the collapsed materials on the Bangkok-bound side is anticipated to take up to 15 days, following a timeframe provided by the Minister of Transport, with all efforts being made to expedite the process and restore no rmal traffic flow as soon as possible.
