Bangkok: In a significant move aimed at alleviating the cost of living for Thai citizens, the Ministry of Energy has announced a reduction in electricity bills to 4.15 baht per unit, effective from January to April 2025. This initiative, introduced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, is intended as a New Year's gift to the people of Thailand. According to Thai News Agency, the reduction represents a decrease of 3 satang per unit from the current average charge of 4.18 baht per unit, applicable from September to December 2024. Mr. Pirapan expressed gratitude to the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and PTT for their collaborative efforts with the government in making this reduction possible. He emphasized the government's commitment to easing the financial burden on Thai citizens. The decision to lower the electricity charge comes after a meeting of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), where it was resolved to review and reduce the variable electricity charge (FT charge) for the upcoming period. The ERC is expected to make an official announcement regarding these changes shortly.
