Moscow: In a recent episode of Going Underground, Dr. Andrey Kortunov, the former Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council, explored various geopolitical dynamics, including Russia’s strategic challenges and the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in countering US influence.

According to United Nations, Dr. Kortunov discussed a range of topics, beginning with the significant yet often overlooked contributions and sacrifices made by China during World War II. He further analyzed the implications of European countries’ plans to send troops to Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity of security guarantees for Russia. Dr. Kortunov raised concerns about whether ongoing negotiations might be a strategy to entrap Russia into another Minsk Agreement-like situation.

The discussion also addressed the strategic responses that powers within the multipolar world, such as China and Iran, could consider in anticipation of potential US actions against them. Dr. Kortunov questioned whether the SCO could effectively resist pressure from the US and its military-industrial complex and if it could serve as a united front for multipolar world powers in opposition to US dominance. He also touched upon the potential for Israel to deploy nuclear weapons against Iran in a future conflict.
