Monk Beheaded in Nakhon Pathom Province by 70-Year-Old Man

Nakhon pathom: A monk from Wat Om Yai Temple in Nakhon Pathom Province was tragically beheaded and succumbed to his injuries before reaching Sam Phran Hospital. The 70-year-old attacker, identified as Mr. Mit, assaulted the monk, Luang Ta Chum, while he was in front of his kuti.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded when Mr. Mit reportedly rode his motorcycle into the temple and encountered Luang Ta Chum, who was tending to his pets. An altercation ensued during which the monk allegedly yelled vulgarities at Mr. Mit. The altercation prompted Mr. Mit to return home, retrieve a knife, and commit the fatal attack.

The police, along with staff from the Por Teck Tung Chanthan Foundation and forensic officers, arrived at the scene in front of the monk's quarters to gather evidence. They discovered a machete, bloodstains, and brain matter at the site. Witnesses, including Ms. Tan, who was assisting with the animals, recounted seeing Mr. Mit ride by on his motorcycle before the monk insulted her. Shortly after, Mr. Mit returned, armed with a knife, and attacked the monk from behind.

Further investigations revealed that the monk, Luang Ta Chum, had hearing difficulties and wore a hearing aid. The ongoing dispute between the monk and Mr. Mit, reportedly over cats and dogs, had been escalating for some time. Following the incident, Mr. Mit was detained by investigators from Pho Kaew Police Station for questioning and legal proceedings.
