Phitsanulok, Uncle Daeng, 70 years old, a former medical officer at Somdech Phra Naresuan Maharat Hospital, Phitsanulok, has opened his home to offer haircut services for only 20-30 baht per head. Lt. Thongdaeng Yenkhan, or Chang Daeng, aged 70, opened his home in Village 6, Ban Noen Makhuek, Samo Khae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phitsanulok Province, as a barbershop. He planned to retire 4 years before he retired. He asked for permission to use his free time to learn how to cut men's hair from the Technical School, which was near his workplace. Most people study for 1 semester, and after 2-3 months, they can start working. But Uncle Daeng enrolled for 3 semesters because of his poor memory and lack of background in the barbering profession, and he wanted to practice until he became skilled. After graduating, he opened to cut hair for soldiers and their children. The starting price was not expensive: children 15 baht, adults 20 baht. After retiring and returning to his home in Tambon Samo Khae, at first the price was still the same, 15-20 baht, before the price was adjusted to 20 baht for students and 30 baht for adults. Currently, there are haircuts, beard shaves, and massages for the same price, no additional charge. They even play music while you get your hair cut. Uncle Daeng said that at that time, he thought that if he retired, he would have to find a stable job. He didn't want to work as a fish farmer or frog farmer. He didn't want to commit sins, so he looked for a better job and a better income after retirement. He decided to go and learn how to cut hair. The price was 20-30 baht per head. This price was comfortable for him. The average was 300-400 baht per day. He charged a low price because he felt sorry for the villagers. Sometimes, people asked to pay him back for the haircut. He was a construction worker who came to cut hair but didn't get paid yet. When it was time to come back for the next haircut, he came to pay the old money that was owed. Uncle's shop is open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 7 :00 p.m. Source: Thai News Agency
