Don Mueang Casino Owner Sentenced to Over 14 Years for Multiple Offenses

Bangkok: "Pa Nui," the owner of a casino in Don Mueang, has been sentenced to 14 years and 129 months in prison, following a court ruling on multiple charges. The Don Mueang District Court handed down the sentence after "Pa Nui," whose real name is Mr. Amnuay, confessed to six counts of offenses.

According to Thai News Agency, the case against "Pa Nui" unfolded after a raid by the Department of Provincial Administration on a gambling den located in Songprapa Soi 1 on August 27th. The 69-year-old owner was later apprehended by police at a noodle shop in the Rama IV area. Following his arrest, investigators from the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Investigation Division and Special Operations Unit 191 transferred Mr. Amnuay from Thung Song Hong Metropolitan Police Station to the Don Mueang Provincial Court. He faced charges of failing to report to the court in an appeals proceeding under the Gambling Act and for providing shelter to foreigners while detained.

The Don Mueang Provincial Court deliberated over several cases against Mr. Amnuay. In Black Case No. A107/2568, the court sentenced him to 8 years and 96 months in prison after he confessed. However, the maximum sentence he will serve for this case is capped at 10 years, with plans to appeal for a reduction.

In four additional cases related to offenses under the Gambling Act, the lower court imposed a total sentence of 6 years and 24 months. Mr. Amnuay and the defendants have confessed and will seek a copy of the lower court's judgment to withdraw their appeals and potentially receive reduced sentences.

The court also issued a detention warrant pending appeal and another for a 9-month imprisonment to be served when the case is finalized under Red Case No. A1631/2022. Ultimately, the court found Mr. Amnuay guilty of offenses under both the Gambling Act and the Immigration Act, leading to a total sentence of 14 years and 129 months. Following the verdict, corrections officials transferred Mr. Amnuay to the Bangkok Remand Prison, as he had completed his final sentence and did not request bail.
