Cold Weather and Thunderstorms Impact Regions Across Thailand

BANGKOK: As temperatures drop and storms loom, Thailand faces a complex weather pattern with cold fronts and thunderstorms affecting various regions of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for the North and Northeast, where temperatures are expected to be particularly cold, while the Southern regions brace for thunderstorms and high waves.

According to Thai News Agency, a high-pressure system and a strong cold air mass from China are sweeping over the upper parts of Thailand, influencing the weather conditions significantly. The Northeastern and Northern regions will experience cool to cold temperatures, with the mountaintops and hilltops becoming very cold. The Central region, including Bangkok, as well as the Eastern region and the upper Southern region, will also see a dip in temperature. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions to protect their health against the cold and to be aware of potential fire hazards due to dry conditions.

The report also highlights the impact of a strong northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea, leading to thunderstorms in the Southern regions. Residents should be vigilant about thunderstorm-related dangers, while maritime activities are also affected. The Gulf of Thailand is experiencing strong waves, with the lower Gulf seeing wave heights of 2-3 meters, and higher in areas with thunderstorms. The upper Gulf and the Andaman Sea have slightly lower wave heights, but caution is still advised. Small boat operators in the lower Gulf are particularly urged to avoid setting sail during this period.

Dust accumulation is another concern in upper Thailand, where moderate levels of dust and smog are being observed. The Meteorological Department anticipates continued accumulation due to moderate ventilation rates, prompting health advisories for those sensitive to air quality issues.
