Bombings and Tire Burnings Rock Narathiwat Province: Multiple Incidents Leave Two Injured

Narathiwat: Heavy unrest erupted in Narathiwat Province as coordinated bombings and tire burnings were reported across five districts, affecting six locations. CCTV footage has confirmed two injuries resulting from the incidents.

According to Thai News Agency, the wave of violence began at 7:50 PM on August 31, 2015, and continued into the early hours of September 1, 2015. The affected districts included Su-ngai Padi, Chanae, Bacho, Cho Airong, and Si Sakhon. Authorities have identified six locations where the attacks took place, resulting in two minor injuries and damage to one vehicle. Investigations were launched by relevant agencies the following morning.

The first incident unfolded in Suhai Padi District at 7:50 PM, where perpetrators ignited tires and detonated an explosive on Highway 4056, near the railway tracks at Ban Aibatu, To Deng Subdistrict. A white Mazda sedan was damaged by shrapnel, injuring two individuals, Mr. Azuding Kureng and Mr. Asfasri Maming.

Subsequent incidents occurred in Ba Cho District at 11:55 PM, with a bomb planted in front of the BAAC Bank branch. While no injuries were reported, the explosion caused property damage.

In Cha Na District, two bombs were planted-one at 11:55 PM in front of a mosque in Du Song Nyo Subdistrict and another at 12:30 AM in a nearby location. Perpetrators also set fire to car tires, but no injuries were reported.

Cho Airong District experienced a bombing at 12:05 AM near the ATM of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) at Cho Airong Railway Station. No injuries occurred in this incident.

In Sri Sakhon District, a bomb was planted at a BAAC ATM in front of the Tambon Tamayung Subdistrict Administrative Organization at 12:30 AM, resulting in damage to the ATM without causing any injuries.

CCTV footage captured images of the attackers, approximately six individuals dressed in black, transporting tires and trash cans along Dusong Nyo Market in Chanae District. They set the tires and trash cans ablaze before fleeing the scene, adding to the community's fear following the mosque bombings.

The Narathiwat Provincial Relief Operations Center (NRAC) responded by aiding the injured, providing medical care and support for their families. Pol. Maj. Gen. Kritsada Kaewchandee, acting commander of Narathiwat Province police, has ordered heightened security measures, including increased checkpoints and collaboration with military and administrative forces to safeguard high-risk areas and prevent further incidents.
