Bangkok Suffers from Severe PM2.5 Pollution

Bangkok: Bangkok is still suffering from PM2.5. This morning, many areas were red, with Nong Chok being the worst. The city continues to grapple with high levels of air pollution as PM2.5 levels exceeded the hazardous red standard, affecting health in 26 areas. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities and wear protective masks when stepping outside.

According to Thai News Agency, the Bangkok Air Quality Information Center reported the PM2.5 measurement results for January 25, 2025, from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., revealing measurements between 55.5 and 96.1 micrograms per cubic meter. The city's average was recorded at 73.5 micrograms per cubic meter. Despite a slight downward trend, PM2.5 levels remained above the red standard, impacting health in 23 areas.

Specific areas recorded alarming PM2.5 levels, with Nong Chok Garden in Nong Chok District reaching 96.1 micrograms per cubic meter, and Lat Krabang District near Nakhon Phiban Hospital at 94.0 micrograms per cubic meter. Other affected areas include Bueng Kum District Office, Khan Na Yao District, and Min Buri District, among others, all registering levels exceeding the standard 75.1 micrograms per cubic meter.

The forecast from January 25 to February 2, 2025, indicates weak ventilation and surface temperature inversions, limiting the dispersion of pollutants. While a slight improvement is expected on January 27-28 due to better ventilation, the situation is likely to deteriorate again thereafter.
