Amphawa Resort Revitalizes Local Market with Innovative Mackerel Pizza

AMPHAWA: In an effort to breathe new life into the Amphawa Floating Market, the owner of Thanicha Resort has introduced an inventive range of dishes centered around the locally sourced Mae Klong mackerel. The unique offerings include mackerel pizza and mackerel curry, along with over ten other mackerel-inspired dishes.

According to Thai News Agency, the initiative is spearheaded by Pharmacist Phutthapranee Tangwichitruk, who returned to her hometown to open the Thanicha Resort Amphawa. Since 2006, she has been committed to enhancing the allure of the Amphawa Floating Market, which has seen various phases of popularity over the years, including a downturn during the Covid-19 pandemic. With a focus on using local ingredients, the resort aims to impress tourists with its distinctive menu.

The menu, which draws inspiration from Indian, Italian, and English culinary styles, features standout items like mackerel pizza and mackerel Chu Chee. The resort also offers dishes such as biryani with mackerel massaman curry and mackerel on chips, emphasizing the use of fresh Mae Klong mackerels. These fusion dishes aim to offer a unique dining experience that celebrates the local cuisine of Samut Songkhram Province.

The preparation of the mackerel pizza involves using soft dough, layered with pesto and pizza sauce, topped with colorful chilies, onions, cheese, and mushrooms, and finished with steamed mackerel pieces. Meanwhile, the mackerel Chu Chee pizza replaces pizza sauce with a simmered Chu Chee sauce, offering a different flavor profile. These innovative pizzas are priced at 299 baht for an 8-inch pan, while other menu items start at 180 baht.
