Women Coalition urges Jokowi to keep same number of women ministers

The number of women who occupy the ministerial positions in the Working Cabinet II will not be less than that of the previous cabinet line-up, which is recorded at nine women

Jakarta (ANTARA) – General Secretary of the Indonesian Women Coalition Dian Kartikasari pinned her hopes on President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to maintain the number of women ministers in his second-term Working Cabinet line-up.

“The number of women who occupy the ministerial positions in the Working Cabinet II will not be less than that of the previous cabinet line-up, which is recorded at nine women,” Kartikasari stated in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

For the next cabinet, the Indonesian Women Coalition recommended that the previous women ministers who had excellent performances be reappointed.

Regarding women’s matters, she suggested that the Women Empowerment and Child Protection Minister be given to a figure who has comprehensive knowledge and capability on gender mainstreaming, abolishing violence against women and children, as well as fulfillment of rights of women and children.

President Jokowi had confirmed earlier that the total number of ministers in his new cabinet line-up would remain the same as that of the previous one.
