West Papua hit by magnitude-4.8 earthquake

Sorong, West Papua (ANTARA) – Some three thousand names were taken off the Official Voter List (DPT) of the 2019 legislative and presidential elections scheduled simultaneously across the nation’s 34 provinces on April 17, 2019, an election body commissioner stated.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 1.06 degrees northern latitude and 132.91 degrees eastern longitude, some 817 kilometers northeast of Tambrauw, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, the Sorong geophysics station stated here, Wednesday.

The shallow earthquake was triggered by collisions between plates. Nearly all residents of Tambrauw felt the tremor. Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is an earthquake-prone nation owing to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
