W20 theme aligns with Indonesian Women’s Congress mission

The “Recover Together, Equally” theme of Woman 20 (W20) Indonesia 2022 aligned with the Indonesian Women’s Congress’ vision and mission, Chairperson Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo stated.

“This theme is in line with the Women’s Congress’ vision and mission that has been followed for 97 years during a congress’ program held once in five years,” Wiyogo remarked during the W20 Indonesia Policy Dialogue themed “Freedom from Discrimination: Historical Journey from Japan to Indonesia” in Likupang, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday.

Wiyogo noted that the theme reflected how the crisis could affect advocacy for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

According to the chairperson, the Indonesian Women’s Congress pushes for equality, safety, and prosperity for women’s enrichment through the eradication of discrimination and violence.

Wiyogo affirmed that the congress also has some programs related to promoting the goal to empower women.

The chairperson is also optimistic that through the implementation of the W20 forum, the challenges related to discrimination faced by G20 countries can be solved.

“I am optimistic that we would be able to address the ongoing problems of discrimination in G20 countries and find ways to solve them,” she affirmed.

Her team also invited leaders of G20 states to be vociferous in pressing for eliminating discrimination to realize the goals of equality, security, and welfare for women.

“We must continue to speak loudly to eliminate discrimination in order to create equality, security, and well-being for women,” Wiyogo affirmed.

In addition, Wiyogo’s team also expressed optimism that the insight and knowledge gained from the W20 Policy Dialogue would be useful to realize independence, peace, and social justice.

W20 is one of the side events that are part of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency Sherpa Track activities. Another similar working group is the G20 EMPOWER aimed at accelerating women’s leadership and empowerment in the private sector.
