UPTD PPA services expanded to assist violence victims

The services of the Women and Child Protection Regional Technical Service Unit (UPTD PPA) have been expanded to assist women and children victims of violence, secretary of the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry has said.

Initially, there were only 6 services, but they have now been expanded to 11 services, Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu informed in a press statement issued here on Tuesday.

“Serving the victims must be done through synergy, not by our own individual actions,” he said.

“This concept is underlined within the UU TPKS (Sexual Violence Crime Law), which refers to President Joko Widodo’s instruction that there must be a reformation in the service system for violence victims,” he added.

Meanwhile, the ministry has continued to actively disseminate the concept of women and child protection integrated service execution as the new service concept for UPTD PPA in regions.

The new concept of integrated services for women and children victims of sexual violence will be incorporated into the one-stop service system.

The system has been designed so that victims get the best service and do not have to transfer from one service to another.

“This UU TPKS very much sides with the victims,” he remarked.

If, for instance, under the previous UPTD PPA services, the victims needed to transfer services to obtain assistance, then, under the new concept, the ministry will strive not to have victims transfer to different services.

Instead, they can report their issues and get a response from officials.

In order to handle and protect victims and support their recovery, the UPTD PPA has been tasked with receiving reports or reaching victims, providing information on victims’ rights, and supporting the provision of health services and psychological strengthening services.

Moreover, UPTD PPA has also been asked to support the provision of psychosocial services, social rehabilitation, and social reintegration, and identification of economic empowerment demand and the need for temporary housing for victims and their families, which must be promptly resolved.

In addition, it is helping disabled victims put forward their demands, coordinating the fulfillment of victims’ rights with other institutions, and monitoring the fulfillment of victims’ rights by law enforcement authorities during the judicial process.
