Ultra Mikro Holding program a success: Minister Thohir

State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has declared the state-run Ultra Mikro Holding’s program a success.

Thohir expressed his appreciation to the Board of Directors and Commissioners as well as officials of Ultra Mikro Holding at a Kartini day event, ‘WOMAN 2022,’ here on Thursday.

WOMAN 2022 was organized by Ultra Mikro Holding, which comprises state-owned bank Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), state pawnshop chain Pegadaian, and microlending firm PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM).

“Congratulations! You (Ultra Mikro Holding) have succeeded and even exceeded the target. This means (Ultra Mikro) not only talking about numbers but also about how many jobs can be created, and how many MSMEs can be helped. Macro-wise, this micro-level success is able to contribute to the national economy,” Thohir remarked.

The consolidation of Ultra Mikro Holding has resulted in 12.7 million customers joining the PNM Mekaar and 8.7 million customers joining the Pegadaian Gold Savings program.

PNM Mekaar is a program by PT PNM that aims to support and boost finance literacy.

BRI, as the biggest distributor of smallholder business credit (KUR), has disbursed more than Rp720 trillion to more than 31 million customers in the period from 2015 to the second quarter of 2022.

“I am happy to listen to the stories of Ultra Mikro customers here, on how BRI, Pegadaian, and PNM can improve their lives. What this Ultra Mikro Holding has presented, can be an example of how SOEs be able to prove and record business performance and maximal public services,” Thohir explained.

According to the minister, SOEs have also shown they can encourage the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Earlier, Thohir had lauded the women customers of PNM Mekaar who managed to create new 7.1 million rural jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PNM Mekaar added 7.1 million customers during the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted.

The SOEs Minister also lauded the people who managed to generate jobs that could help other communities during the pandemic.
