Standard inpatient class to ensure equal medical services: govt

The Presidential Staff Office fully supports the trial of the standard inpatient class (KRIS) in July 2022, which is expected to provide equal medical services through the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).

The implementation of KRIS is mandated by Law No. 40 of 2004 on the National Social Security System (SJSN), Presidential Staff Office’s expert main staff, Noch Tiranduk Mallisa, noted in an official statement issued on Saturday.

The goal is to provide equal health facilities and services to BPJS Kesehatan members.

Thus, classes 1, 2, and 3 that exist in the National Health Insurance and Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) program will be eliminated.

“This KRIS humanizes the people. It aligns with the law’s mandate, which states that everyone has the same right to receive health facilities and services,” Mallisa remarked.

In the early stage, the KRIS program will be tested in vertical hospitals owned by the Health Ministry.

This is because, in terms of resources, vertical hospitals have full support from the central government, both in infrastructure fulfillment and budget.

According to the results of field monitoring and verification conducted by the Presidential Staff Office’s team, the ministry’s vertical hospitals in several regions are ready for the KRIS trial.

Mallisa listed several hospitals that were covered by the monitoring and verification, including Dr. Sadjito Hospital in Yogyakarta, Pongtiku Hospital in North Toraja, South Sulawesi, and Reksodiwiryo Indonesian Army Hospital in Padang, West Sumatra.

However, the field verification revealed a number of issues that the vertical hospitals could encounter in implementing KRIS, such as the availability of land and other infrastructures.

“But basically, they are ready for the trial. This is what we continue to push,” he said.

He acknowledged that the implementation of KRIS will not be easy and will necessitate a long transition period.

There are many aspects that will need to be prepared, starting from room facility standards to the reformulation of the hospital fee and tariff.

However, people do not need to worry given that BPJS Kesehatan and hospital services will continue to proceed as usual, he added.

Mallisa said he expects that KRIS implementation in the ministry’s vertical hospitals will be successful so that it can be extended to Indonesian Army-Police hospitals, regional government hospitals, and private hospitals.

At the early stage, KRIS will be implemented in 50 percent of vertical hospitals by determining 9 mandatory criteria from the 12 agreed-upon criteria.
