Royal Government Rejects an Article Broadcasted by RFA Last Night

The Press and Quick Reaction Unit (PRU) of the Council of Ministers this afternoon issued a statement totally rejecting a news broadcasted yesterday night by Radio Free Asia (RFA) about a Royal Government’s plan to amend the constitution in order to change Cambodia from a Constitutional Monarchy to a Republic.

This is a fake news trying to mislead and confuse the public, underlined the PRU in the statement.

PRU quoted the new Article 155 of the Cambodian constitution stipulating that amendment to the constitution cannot be made if it affects liberal multi-party democracy system and constitutional monarchy, and the new Article 136 of the constitution determining the mission of the Constitutional Council to ensure the protection, the respect of the constitution, to interpret the constitution and laws approved by the National Assembly and examined by the Senate.

The Royal Government led by the Cambodian People’s Party has really played a core role and been a strong backbone in the process of bringing back this 2nd constitutional monarchy and always protects absolutely this regime, the statement underlined.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen clearly vowed before the royal body of His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk on Oct. 17, 2012 to protect the throne, monarchy, the Queen-Mother and the King, said the same source, recalling that on June 21, 2017 in Memut district of Thbong Khmum province, the Premier reaffirmed his commitment to protect the constitutional monarchy and the throne.

PRU thus called on the public not to believe in this fake news which is an opinion of RFA that always intends to mislead, distort and confuse the public opinion in order to create chaos, break national solidarity and destroy peace, stability and development of Cambodia.

Moreover, PRU underlined the absolute and irreversible stance of the Royal Government of Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen to protect the constitutional monarchy, the throne, and the national motto – Nation, Religion, and King – at any cost.
