Regions hold key to accelerating infrastructure development

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – The key to accelerating development of infrastructure projects is held by regional administrations, the Public Works and Housing Ministry said, Monday.

Director General of Water Resources Imam Santoso said the success in accelerating infrastructure development depends much on the determination of regional administrations and their ability to cooperate with the local people.

Imam Santoso cited as an example the implementation of the Raknamo dam project in East Nusa Tenggara completed in 13 months earlier than schedule.

The dam would be officially commissioned by President Joko Widodo on Tuesday.

Earlier, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said construction of the Raknamo dam could finished earlier as there was almost no problem in land clearing.

Difficulty in land clearing has been the main drag in the implementation of infrastructure project such as dam, toll road , and power plants in the country. Land owners tends to raise the price of their land when they know their lands are needed for projects.

“Construction of the Raknamo dam began in January, 2015 to be completed in January, 2019 , but it could be finished in December, 2017,” Basuki Hadimuljono said here on Sunday.
