PUPR Minister instructs gradual completion of Japek II toll road

Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has called to gradually complete construction of the Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) II South toll road, connecting Jakarta and West Java by the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) 1, JORR 2, and Purwakarta-Bandung-Cileunyi toll road.

“Prioritize completion of the 8-km-long toll road between the Sadang Interchange and Kutanegara Interchange before continuing to the last phase until the Taman Mekar Interchange and completing the Taman Mekar-Sadang section of the toll road,” Minister Hadimuljono noted in his written statement here Tuesday.

Hadimuljono had earlier visited the construction site of a bridge over the Citarum River to review the progress in work. The bridge, being a section of the Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road, is expected to be completed in November 2021. The Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road, spanning 64 km, is being built with a construction budget totaling Rp8.8 trillion (around US$616 million). The toll road is divided into three sections: the Jatiasih-Setu section, spanning 9.3 km; Setu-Taman Mekar section, reaching 24.85 km; and Taman Mekar-Sadang section, extending 27.85 km.

The progress in land procurement for the first two sections has reached 3.06-percent and 30.18-percent completion, while the work to construct the third section is 50.83-percent complete, with the work expected to be completed in early 2022.

The Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road is designated as a national strategic project funded by the national and regional budget. The Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road is constructed through a joint operational agreement between state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga and PT Wiranusantara Bumi.

For the third section of the toll road, PT Waskita Karya is the construction contractor, while PT Cipta Strada presided over the project as a supervisory consultant.

Seven toll gates will be built along the Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road in Jati Asih, Bantar Gebang, Setu, Sukaragam, Taman Mekar, Kutanegara, and Sadang.

The ministry expects the new toll road to boost the regional economy and development as the toll road connects industrial centers, housing complexes, and tourism destinations.
